Load significantly less for similar effort activities since 19.10 update

Since updating to the 19.10 update two days ago the load after activities is recording significantly lower when compared to other similar activities.

For example, I ran 12km today & it calculated 51 load, vs a 7.7km run on Wednesday (pre-software update), which recorded 240 load. I actually ran slower of the Wednesday run & the zones captured off my HR monitor match this. I always exercise with my HR monitor (including today), so I know my readings are as accurate as they can be.

What’s the go here? How can this be rectified? It’s messing with my training stats & its pissing me off.

  • ANT+ is another connection technology - it's older than BT, and with ANT+ IIRC it's a one way communication - the belt sends, the watch doesn't talk back as such.....

  • I was never on 19.10 but I went from 18.71b to 19.20 and I'm not seeing this.

On the previous beta I did see an activity report 0 and 0 for TE and aTE with a Training Load of 0. After update to 19.20 I spotted the maxHR on the watch was too low (it was correct in Garmin Connect) but after manually setting this on the watch all has been fine.

I do not use the internal HR, always external belts via ANT+

This is my 4 week load so about 50% of this is on 19.20, and I can't spot any drop off.

  • Updated 1/24/2022:

If you have continue to have any issues with Vo2, Training Effect, or Exercise Load, please update your watch software. The issue was resolved with software version 20.30.

Our engineers are working on resolving the issues as quickly as possible. If you would like to be added to the tracking case, I will be happy to add you.

  • I am using Polar OH1 with bluetooth. I have chagrd that now to ANT+. Will train tomorrow. Had short ride today with fenix eatch on the wrist and normal readings on training load (aerobic, anaerobic, calories and intensity minutes).

  • Trained with Polar OH1 connected with ANT+ and the result are the same as with Bluetooth. I cycle for 76 minutes with 16 min zone 5, 52 min zone 4, 8 minutes zone 3. Aerobic effect 0.7 and anaerobic 0.0. training load 7.

  • 61 minutes indoor ride today, Polar H10, ANT+

    aTE 0.2 TE 3.0 Load 91

    no zone 5, zone 4 16%, zone 3 37%, zone 2 23%, zone 1 6%

I tend to do this most Tuesdays and that looks pretty typical historically for me.

  • Hey all,

Just wanted to post an update here that I finally got it working correctly again after installing the 19.74 beta firmware that I received from Garmin via email.

It took 1.5 months to fix it. It could have been worse. But I certainly was hoping for a quicker fix, at least at the beginning. Now it will take another 4 weeks before my performance stats are reasonable again.

  • Thanks for the update! I wonder why I haven’t received an email from them yet, that’s disappointing since I reported this issue around the 24 August. Good to hear they got it sorted though.

  • No email for me either. I had a few days a month or so ago where it seemed to get better but then it dripped again and although i’m not training much this month, i did a hard 1hr  bike interval session last week and the training load came out at 22! Hope Garmin will send me the update soon!

  • That's weird. But it turns out the beta release is also available in a new thread here in the forum, so you can get it from there: forums.garmin.com/.../fenix-6-series---19-74-public-beta
