I really cannot find my answer in the manual.

At the end of your workout, hit the stop button, but instead of saving it (at this stage), scroll down to the Recovery Heart Rate item. (It takes 2 minutes to measure your recovery heart rate)
You are…

You are right - the manual is pretty vague on how to do this.
As mcalista said there is a function for it when you stop the timer. The recovery HR is also saved to the activity file but unfortunately not show by Garmin Connect. I use Runalyze in parallel to Garmin Connect and it shows a lot of useful info from every activity such as VO2 estimation (with decimals), recovery time and recovery HR.
Forgot about the. Since it's no longer automatic after stopping I've stopped looking at it on the watch after an activity.
Thanks. Found it. Not very intuitive. I wish the manual would mention that. Now if I do a 45 mn cycling workout with the last 5 mn as a cooldown, should I still do the cooldown or stop the workout when my hr is high?
If cooldown is part of your training (still cycling) I would let the timer run, or even create a workout where lap button transfer you to next stage. You can also set a target (power, hr, time etc. for the cool down):
thanks. i learn something today. will work on that.
Thanks guys, i got it this morning. now is there a way to see this value on the watch, mobile or web app later on or you just have to remember. i think someone suggested to use runalize.

I miss the automation of this honestly...so weird...
