Is it possible to transfer the maps which come with Fenix 6 Pro to a Mac or to Basecamp?

Yes.  Plug your watch into your computer (pc or mac) while basecamp is running.  It will take a while for the map to copy, but it will then show up in the list of maps you can view.  However, in order to view the map in basecamp, you will have to have your watch plugged in every time you want to see the map.  That's how they make sure you still own a copy.

That's what I tried already. However it is very slowly to use the map.
Does it really create a copy on the Mac? Or does it work remotely on the Fenix map?

I am merely making an assumption :

I assume that a temporary copy of the map is stored on the computer. But you will not be able to save this temporary copy permanently to use it independently of the watch. I assume that the device ID of the connected watch  or a stored activation code  is required to use the map. This cannot be retrieved once the watch is disconnected from the computer.

You can copy the maps from the watch to removable flash storage attached to the computer. I have mine saved to Micro Sd card which sits permanently in the card slot in my laptop. 

You might get away with only copying the map files to the card. That's worked for me on the past. Or you might need to also copy a file to fake the card to appear to be the watch. The important file (I think) is Garmindevice.xml or something like that.

If you need to add this extra file then the card will also present itself as though it is the watch for Garmin Express, which will attempt to sync and update the card. I've never experienced problems as a result, but it might be best to eject the card before attaching the real watch.

Yep! I copied UK Topo Light v9 to a sd card and it works in Basecamp to help me plot routes and avoid the very slow indexing

If you're on a windows machine and no card slot, theres a few pieces of free software that enable you to create a virtual removable drive - I have that on my PC with a load of maps from OSM etc so I can check them out in Basecamp. I'm using https://sourceforge.net/projects/imdisk-toolkit/ but remember when setting up the virtual drive mark it as "removable" so Basecamp will use it

Fellow mac user here, but my Mac Mini has a SD card slot so I never worried on that! I'll nose for something similar ;)

Thanks to all for the great feedback. Quick heads-up, but I still have to test in more detail:

- I use a Macbook Pro. The Fenix does not show up in finder, also tested various methods

- I installed Android File Transfer and the Fenix is recognized. I can copy files from the Fenix to a disk. However I can not transfer files on to the Fenix (only creating folders is possible)

- I also copied the 'GarminDevice.xml' to a removable disk. However can not open the maps with basecamp

I will keep you posted.
