Firmware 16.60 - Fenix 6x Pro Solar Battery drain

So over the night my Fenix 6x Pro Solar auto updated to firmware 6.60.  I was excited, but when I went to bed my percentage was at about 58%, but then when I woke up it was at 30%.  In the last couple hours along with keeping the watch in the sun charging I have already dropped 2%.  I did a restart first thing this morning.

Not sure if others are experiencing this.

  • Yes, I did.
I have now recharged it over night, will do another restart now and wait. I will report

  • One hour later, 2% battery used :-(

  • The last charge for me finished at 13:00 yesterday. Now it's 11:00 and my watch is down 14%
I did about 1h of gps exercise yesterday, no maps. oxi is always off, screen backlight shortest, notifications largely off, It's not as bad as you or others, but it's a rather bad drain still.

  • I have the same problem. I've tried everything. Downgrade from 16.60 to 15.20. 15.20 also had a massive battery drain. Later I jumped on 16.70 with no changes. Every two, max. four days the watch must be a charge. I lose about 22% /1h while I'm doing an activity. All off only three Ant+ are on. Over two hours of training and after 24 hours on the watch, it is already 50%....

    You said

So my first thought on that is, that the update 16.60 actually broke the battery of the Garmin Fenix 6 Pro ...

I also know something is wrong and I know that 15.20 and 16.70 will not fix what 16.60 did to the watch.

I just hope that the 7x will be on sale soon and the first thing I do is turn off the automatic upgrades on the watch.

  • Sooo... I contacted Garmin once more and asked them when they believe that they will fix the battery issue.

The answer was very interesting, they told me that they have tried anything to fix the Watch but didn't not find a solution. Instead I now will receive a new watch after sending my current one to them.

  • Thanks for the hint !!!

I did the same and a new watch is on its way!

I have always believed in GARMIN. That's why I have a few gadgets from GARMIN and many more to buy.

    Thanks, GARMIN !!!

  • Same here, I had excessive battery drain on my 6X Pro Solar that was just over 12 months old. I initially could charge 100% then play a round of golf using the Garmin Golf App and it would have at least 85% remaining.

It got to the stage that after fully charging and playing golf, it only had just over 25% remaining.

Contacted Garmin Australia, I'd had a couple other issues with my 6X, Garmin said to return and they then sent out a brand new 6X Pro Solar.

Good one Garmin, you have my support.

  • In the beginning, thank you all for your help. We all know that a watch is an important tool for us. And any problem with a watch is like a headache. Which makes training difficult. I want to share information about how the watch should work. Yesterday I fully charged and fully upgraded a brand new 6x sapphire, the previous one I sent back. Here are the differences.

Old 6x sapphire (16.60 back to 15.20 then jump to 16.70 and all possible combinations and attempts to fix the software)

24h in battery saving mode - 10% down (HR on - everything else off)

    1h activity with three sensors - 22% down (3 x Ant+ - everything else off)

In this system, the watch lasted up to 4 days….

New 6x sapphire (16.70 fully upgraded)

24h in battery saving mode - (HR on - everything else off)

    2h (not 1h as above) activity with three sensors - (3 x Ant+ - everything else off)

and after 24 hours the watch shows 99 % !!! the watch used less than 1% !!!

It's amazing! and the display is black, not blue lucky me Ha Ha!

So the 16.70 software is very good.

Technicians from Garmin, you've got a beer at my place, great job!

  • Same...my release day 6x Pro was replaced (with a refurb, but my watch was already 2.5yrs old) and the battery life has been amazing.

I too only had 1% usage in the first 24hrs and I honestly thought something was wrong with the reporting. Last charge event was on the 18th and I'm still at 70%
