Firmware 16.60 - Fenix 6x Pro Solar Battery drain

So over the night my Fenix 6x Pro Solar auto updated to firmware 6.60.  I was excited, but when I went to bed my percentage was at about 58%, but then when I woke up it was at 30%.  In the last couple hours along with keeping the watch in the sun charging I have already dropped 2%.  I did a restart first thing this morning.

Not sure if others are experiencing this.

  • It's been 32 hours since I performed the hard reset 4400548 suggested and the watch has used 14% battery in that time, I project it will now last around 9.5 days which is much better, thank you.

  • Hello everyone. For the introduction, I have 6x pro sapphire 16.60 and still have a problem with the battery. The watch several times had: factory reset with and without erasing all data and a few hard reboots. Each time of course it was paired with all sensors again. 48 hours have passed since charging and the situation is as follows. I lost 5% in the first 24h, which would suggest everything is alright. However, the night watch goes into energy-saving mode and only has wrist HR on. all other connections are disabled. And during the day worked as a smartwatch (I indeed had almost no notifications on Sunday). So this 5% should be without the eco mode, and yes it should be less. Today I did interior cycling training, and after exactly the first hour I lost 22% (1.Ant+ power meter, 2. Ant + HR strap, 3. Ant+ speed/cadence). Now the watch is 56% after 48 hours. In my earlier post I mentioned that during my last hike after 4 hours, the battery was 0% from 100%. That is 25% per hour (normal mode and I was connected to the phone, HR from the wrist + GPS).

In general, and averaging the watch worked for about three weeks. I did some activity several times a week and at night I went in eco mode. So I was making up for the loss of the battery. Now it looks like the battery only lasts four days in the same system of work so something is wrong Disappointed

So if you have any suggestions I would love to hear them and for which I thank you in advance.

  • Probably not a great suggestion, and I have not done any additional testing, but are you using a Garmin default watchface?  When I did have the major drain on battery I was using another watchface (solar time 2.0).  I went over to the default watchface, and drain also dropped.  I would not think 22% losses would occur, but it might be something to at least try if you haven't already.

  • I have been very happy with my Fenix 6X Pro Solar's battery consumption over the course of several updates, and I am usually reluctant to say that something that Garmin updated blew things up. However, the update to 16.60 either blew up my battery's performance or the accuracy of it's displayed status. I've noticed erratic swings in the battery status/level of charge since the update, and it appears overall to be draining at a higher rate than it was. With everything else being equal (i.e. settings, watchface, and so forth), I just noticed a 4% drop over the course of the past hour for no apparent reason. Unless I've been running multiple processes (e.g navigation while tracking an activity) that has never happened before. A soft reset after the update did nothing to mitigate this issue. Between my wife and I, we have 5 Garmin Devices (two Instincts, a Vivoactive 4s, a Fenix 5X Plus, and a Fenix 6X Pro Solar), and I've never seen this behavior until now.

Update - I contacted Garmin and apparently they have received enough reports concerning the battery drain to open a ticket. If you contact them your name can be added to the list as well, and reportedly you'll be notified when the developers figure out the problem and the fix.

Update - 5-18-2021 - So, after a couple more soft resets and syncing my watch with Garmin Express, my battery performance seems to have stabilized at the level that it was at before the update. I can't explain it, but I'm  hoping that things remain stable.

  • I had a similar problem with Fenix 5x in the past and from this moment I do not install any watch faces or applications. Only what was on the watch as standard. Or more precisely, the simplest, where there is the only time, calories, and date, nothing more.

  • I have a Fenix 6 Pro for the last 2 months now and my previous software version was 15.20 I believe. Since the 16.60 update 3 days ago I have seen a noticeable decrease in battery life. I haven't changed my usage in any way so I think the comparison is accurate. I can safely say that I'm getting 2-3 days less from a full charge now.

I hope Garmin can work on a fix for this because I was very happy with the battery life during the 15.20 update

  • Yes, I'm experiencing exactly this with my Fenix 6 Pro too.

I'm too currently using as a smart watch (i.e. without GPS/activity/music) only HR on.

  • Okay, glad I found this forum. I have the 6x pro and having the same issue. I tried the long press on light (reset) to no avail. I also tried turning the phone connection off which didnt help. I use up about 10% a day which is way more then ever before with no change to watch.  Quick question (because I dont remember) the various ANT sensors when not in an activity, should they be in "SEARCHING" mode?  Anyway, hoping for a quick fix as 10% a day in smart watch is not good.

  • There are other threads for that. Please post according to topic of the thread to keep stuff clean in here.
