No GPS (V 0.00) Garmin Fenix 6X Saphire

Just Received my Watch and found out that it's unable to detect my location in open sky. I checked the system version and found out the the GPS v. is (0.00) which means there is no software for GPS. Can anybody help?

  • Download the latest public beta for your 6X from here -

    https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=15168

Follow the instructions including that for the GPS update:

    Installation Instructions

    1. Download and unzip Fenix6xPro_***Beta.zip.
    2. Place the gupdate.gcd file, found in the System_v*** folder, into the \GARMIN folder of the device.
    3. If there is a Sensor Hub_v*** folder, place the gupXXXX.gcd file into the \GARMIN\REMOTESW folder of the device. Please note, not all Beta releases will include an update.
    4. If there is a GPS_v*** folder, place the gupXXXX.gcd (or 006B310700.GCD) file into the \GARMIN\REMOTESW folder of the device. Please note, not all Beta releases will include an update.
    5. If there is a ANT_BLE_BT_v*** folder, place the gupXXXX.gcd file into the \GARMIN\REMOTESW folder of the device. Please note, not all Beta releases will include an update.
    6. Disconnect from your computer and proceed through the update.
    7. If you would like to revert to the last public release software, drop the gupdate.gcd file found in the System_Backdate_v*** folder in the \GARMIN directory NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.
  • That was the first plan I executed. Check the beginning of the thread.

  • You could repeat  point 4  again.

Before you do that, I would turn off the clock by pressing the light button in the upper left corner for about 20 seconds. (as long till it turn off).

When you connect the clock to the computer, it will turn on again.

Then, when it has rebooted (battery indicator is visible) repeat step 4 and then disconnect the watch from the computer.

Do you then get a message that a software update is available?

  • It's important that you place the GPS file directly in the folder  \GARMIN\REMOTESW\

Don't place the folder "GPS_v500", but the file "006B310701.GCD" directly into "\GARMIN\REMOTESW\"

I did some of this mistakes, when I installed beta firmware for the first time.

  • It’s a while since I did this, but you should see an option to reinstall the existing software.

I downloaded it, connected the watch, and it see that there isn't any update to the watch software. Should I do any step before connecting to the updater?
  • you should see an option to reinstall the existing software.

The webupdater works only for official FW. A beta FW cannot be installed via the webupdater.

  • Good point; I didn’t read carefully enough, thought he was still on 15.20.
OP, if you use the rollback software in the beta download to take it back to 15.20, then try the webupdater, it could work. The rollback won’t do anything to the gps software but the webupdater could.
Just putting the 5.00 file in the right place in the watch folders won’t reinstall it, it will just be silently deleted

  • After all these trials, It's now V 15.73

Anyone knows how to rollback to v15.20 ?

  • Are you are on beta software, there should be the latest official 15.20 release contained the the beta software you downloaded.

Personally I don't think you can solve this problem your side - I suspect your GPS hardware is faulty which is why you are seeing 0.0. Hope I'm wrong!
