Garmin Fenix 6S heart rate issue

I'm considering to purchase a Fenix 5S or a Fenix 6S but I keep reading about the heart rate issue. Has this been solved? Or people still not getting the correct HR measurement? Thank you

  • Hi Krisztina I have got the Garmin Fenix 6 pro about one month ago. Before I owned the Vivoactive 3.

I have to tell you that I am a disappointed as the Vivoactive 3 worked better. When running sometimes my device just goes totally off, reporting 170+ readings on very mild workouts, where my correct hr is between 130 and 140. It's being happening on every workout I used the wrist monitor. For some reason, when doing cardio activities it is even worse: the watch is way off giving creazy high readings even when I am still. It becomes very frustrating.

Anyway, my opinion based on experience is that for any complex workout (e.g. speed intervals etc) where you need exact and timely hr reading, you must have a chest hr monitor. The wrist hr monitor is ok for simple workouts where you are likely keeping the same pace / effort.

  • HR is still not entirely accurate and think Garmin has done all it can with the current sensor technology unfortunately. You need to be wearing it not too loose but not too tight and it takes around 30 seconds to reflect you're actual heart rate during running/biking activities and doesn't really work very well with wrist heavy activities (which is expected). When you get the optimal range for tightness it's actually not too far off, being around 1-5 bpm off from a HR strap but like I said, takes a few seconds to 'catchup' so activities such as HIIT are going to give you some off readings.

It does well on resting HR readings but as soon as you start moving around it goes sky high being as much as 20-30bpm off.

  • I've had that happen, unusually high HR reading that doesn't self-correct a couple of times. Both times I had to reboot the watch to get it to correctly register my HR. Never had that happen with my Vivoactive 3, either.

  • My heart rate monitoring used to be very good, and very accurate compared to a strap monitor.  But since v13.10 of the software it's been reading very high.   Frustrating.

  • just stop moving your hand/wrist !  and it'll be accurate.

  • Hello, a tip the Fenix 6x pro solar at 899 € is not worth it, it is certainly what makes GPS watches worse.

  • It's been accurate for 9 months, but since 13.10, not at all.  Even jumped from 80 to 140bpm on a short walk yesterday.

  • I have the same issue. It used to be pretty accurate, since 13.10 the watch is unusable without a chest strap for activities. It's brutal.

I hope for a pretty quick fix...
