Is this really the ultimate fitness watch now or is it a work in progress????

ok..first off the new features are Amazing.

They combine (in theory) your daily stress, sleep, workout stress (running, bike and even strenght) your daily activities and crunchs the numbers in real time to give you:

1. Recovery hours (more precise and changes if your are not recovering or are stressed)

2. Live body battery

3. Tells you: do this or that or dont do anything...

Ok...that means you need to keep it on during sleep because sleep is the 1 indicator of recovery (hrv...ANS..etc.)

I  own an oura ...

Yesterday bodybattery went up to 61 only and I still have 42 hours to recover from workouts and stress.

I get a 79 sleep score...seems ok.and it says relax...no workout

Now I open the oura...thinking lets see how the compare

88 readiness and 87 sleep

Oura says...go for it you are on fire...????

Who is right...should I sleep with a strap?

I wanted to ditch the ring on ebay (size 13 black btw)

I will compare for 2 weeks

  • I have used an Oura Ring and 6X Pro Solar since December last year. My conclusion from daily comparisons is that Oura is entirely focused on sleep quality and overnight recovery. It has very little data from daytime training and stress from which to form judgements. Sure, it can import activity data from Strava (via Google Fit), but it appears to use the data in only the most simple terms, like calories burned. It also does not appear at all oriented towards athletic types for whom (hard?) training is part of daily life.

In my opinion the Garmin ecosystem has a far broader view of things and close to equivalent depth of (sleep) data. Mostly I see broad agreement in sleep data analysis, but that's about it. If I want actionable intel upon which to plan my daily activities I'll stick with Garmin.

I've found the ring to be a useful tool to get to grips with my sleep needs, but now that I know the story for me it's not a product I will need for the rest of my life. When the battery is done on the ring I won't buy another. There is too much overlap with Garmin, but Garmin is so much richer in data collection, analysis and value overall.

By the way, with a DLC coating on my ring, I have a suspicion that it might be the reason for otherwise unexplained scratches on my phone screen and possibly my watch, from when I used to wear them on opposite sides. Now I make sure that the ring and the watch are always on the same side, especially when switching wrists to take a shower and to give my regular watch wrist a breather.

  • I'm sure there are other watches that have similar features or some might be even better at some for less money (Xiaomi, Huawei...).
What made me finally pull the trigger was primarily the battery life and then the ecosystem.
Owning a Fenix 6X Sapphire since a couple of weeks back I'm very satisfied so far. Been walking, running, hiking, biking and the watch have performed flawlessly. There are a lot of features that I have not been able to test yet or even understood :)

  • Yup

But now with the firstbeat sleep analysis the value of the watch is much greater.

Compare to my f5x plus...this watch is getting new features on a regular.

Oura was great but I feel Garmin just made me want to ditch my ring ...the sleep date is levered now to tell me if I am recovered enough for a hard workout...

Oura is nice but with the garmin sleep its a bit an overkill now in my opinion

  • Yes- The Fenix 6, especially with integrated sleep and stress into your training recovery, is the ultimate fitness watch.

Yes- it is a work in progress.  I hope they never stop.

I'm having fun with the intent of improved training stress/load/recovery accuracy (presumed)- but nothing is going to replace "How do you feel?"

VO2Max is assessed each run to 4 significant digits (0.01%)... but it's about 15% off for me.  So- not really sure what to think about that.

And- I mess up my training all the time.  Often overcooking my training load when I should be resting, and getting into deep fatigue holes.  What can I say- I like running (too much).  And- when the young guys are out there, I'm always trying to keep up, even when I should be doing slower miles.  oh well.

My watch had the same problem then I sent to claim and got the new one, but it was still the same. I went back to claim again and now I get the third one. I am being in the same situation and ask them to return my money. Weary

  • It's really funny. One device says this and another says the reverse and users are confused about this.

I guess the importantest and accuratest thing is your body, and therefore your body is the benchmark for your sleep rating and all other health metrics. So, watch your body and compare this with the device to rate the accuracy of the device (not the accuracy of your body :D).

  • I know im testing both together

Oura says I am well rested and garmin f6x says not so...who is right...er...???

  • Oura says I am well rested and garmin f6x says not so...who is right...er

I don't have an Oura ring, but is what eezytiger said about the ring using data from sleep and your F6 24/7 correct? If so, you can't compare the data between the two.

And what says your body? How do you feel?
