ClimbPro and routes

Hi all,

I have a question on the ClimbPro feature.

Up to now I used this feature only by loading gpx tracks (or courses) into the watch with Garmin Connect, and they worked pretty well.

Yesterday I was biking and I made the Fenix calculate a route to a waypoint. I was expecting the ClimbPro to work as well, but actually it showed the altimetry only up to the point where I was: from there on, it was only a flat line.
I thought the watch could retrieve the elevation info from the map DEM, but apparently it can't.

Does anyone have some info on this?

Have you loaded the Garmin golf maps, too? The DEM of these maps is causing an issue. Maybe this caused your issue...

Yes, I have the golf maps too (but turned off). I'd never thought about this, next time I will try deleting them.

I did a test by removing golf maps. I was dubious, because my problem seemed a little different than those reported in that thread.

But, I'll be damned, you were right. Now I have the info on altimetry even with a route calculated by the watch.

Does the ClimbPro screen pop up automatically for you at the start of a climb or do you have to select it manually? I was told it should be automatic but never got it working.

I select it manually, but IIRC there is a setting to toggle this, and I've never tried to switch it on.

ClimbPro doesn't work automatically on Fenix 6 like it does on other devices. You have to manually scroll to the screen to see it. It took Garmin support took nearly two months to realise this when I queried why it doesn't auto display at the bottom of an ascent. Their response was to use this form and hope enough people suggest it (really):. www8.garmin.com/.../

Then you got farther then I did. Support assured me it should switch automatically at the start of an ascent and asked me to sent the route files I was using. After that I've never heard from them again, same as my other support requests.
