Wait for 7 and buy 6. When 7 comes out - 6 will (should) be out of beta testing and have somewhat stable software.
And 6 will be cheaper when 7 comes out.
Signs in general point to it still being a while before the Fenix 7 will be released, I have no insider information, just speculation, but hear me out:
1. Garmin released the Fenix 5, then a year later…
go for the 6
you ony live once
and you get used to how the numbers relate to your wellbeing
happy & safe sporting
I'd go for the 6. A few reasons why... Firstly, going for the 7, you'd not only have to wait for the release, but at least six months after the release for Garmin to sort out bugs from the software. Secondly, it's tough to improve on the 6. They've perfected the size as one of the reasons I never went for a Fenix because of the god-awful weight and thickness of F3HR... I'm a tall man with thin wrists and I've no issues wearing F6 Pro whatsoever (in fact, it's more comfortable than my old mechanical watches). My black-bezelled F6 Pro looks extremely sleek and so I love wearing it in not only sports but in formal occasions and clubbing, for business or for pleasure. You got maps, you got music, you got Wi-Fi etc. I guess they could do something with the display tech (especially with all the blue tint discussions) but going OLED would affect battery life and visibility in sunlight. Speaking of battery life, whereas I could not wear my Vivoactive 3 all the time because I could not trust the battery to last through a weekend, I'm actually sweating over the fact that I get to charge the battery of my F6 Pro so rarely. =D I'd say I've done a full charge once a month at this point which is crazy.
I couldn't agree more. I have been using Garmin products for almost two decades now, and it has always been the same: Products reach their promised feature quality long after having been sold, basically around the time the next version comes around.
What a funny philosophy for an otherwise great company.
Is this the Agile software development they are all talking about?
If you look on wikipedia you will see the fenix lifecycle between models is around 15 months with the next one due January ish. But given the world at the moment whether we see a 7 then is anybody's guess
This year is anything but a normal year, though. Covid could easily have caused a product release cycle delay of 6-12 months.
Wait for the 7, software will be capable of much more than the 6 or 5, for example recording activities in the background and being able to use another app at the same time.
