Any pool swimmers among forum experts?

When I say forum experts - I mean those "guys who are posting everywhere, and can be by default pro-Garmin oriented."

This is not whining - I need your constructive help.
If you dont swim in the pool - then pass on, and I will understand that your Garmin expertise does not apply. (if that is possible at all)

I owned Fenix 6X from Sep 1 2019 (so day after launch date)
Within 15 days I saw the issue - reported in the thread, and which did not existed during 2019 (on my FR935 as the previous watch)
https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/fenix-6-series/173738/you-are-not-lazy---calories-widget-is-not-working

Next to it - I reported issue to Garmin via official channel.
Never single response neither from Garmin, nor from any of the forum experts.
Not yes, not no - nothing.

So yes, I tried everything - and no I dont want to be negative
Also, I dont need comments about other "more important features" you appreciate about the watch.
This is a triathlon watch, and swimming is part of it.

I just need you to go to pool and try to reproduce the error I reported.
If I dont get any info from you in the next 5 days (lets say - you accidentally did not read the post) - I can help you by quoting your user name so you can get the notification.

Very honestly - can we be constructive and help fellow users?

Thank you in advance!

  • Did a swim this morning and I can confirm the same behaviour on my Fenix 6 Pro (firmware 9.0). My swim was 800 calories and it only counted around 390 active calories, for the run I did yesterday everything seems correct.

Also see the incorrect values on my phone and on the online Garmin connect.

  • I can comment on Garmin feedback...

It is UNCOMMON for Garmin to respond to ANY reports of ANYTHING.

The FIRST time I have EVER had ANY response - was when it was organised HERE and managed by regarding the weather app. So 110% THUMBS UP for Garmin - Chris!

I have sent ? > 10+ bug reports before and had never had any kind of response apart from the above. (Much like a suggestion box below)

I do wish Garmin would utilise a Ticket System for error reporting - so we could be kept informed on bug solves etc. But the general messy way Garmin develops their software does not seem to agree with "monitoring and quality control" from the anyone - especially "end-users"

I hope the results from Weather App reporting will help show Garmin that grabbing a "bug" by the "b***s" helps the developers figure out how big an issue it really is and how many have it.

  • Massive thank you

  • Went back and looked at a swim from Jan 26. 421 active calories for the activity. ~600 active calories recorded on the day. No other activities that day. Seems about right to me as I usually get some extra active calories after the workout during recovery and sprinkled throughout the day in general.

  • Also checked a swim from Jan 21 (firmware 5.0.0), 762 active calories recorded that day and my swim was 962 calories.

Did you swim continuous or with rest breaks?

  • For Nils - this bug exists, originates from the watch, not the GCM.

Once you get into pool next time, do the screenshots on the watch itself (from shortcuts menu) and post here

  • Hi phn55

What sndpl75 posted earlier is exactly what I'd expect to see.  Looking at the snapshots of your watch in the thread link you posted makes no sense. Is this a one off or do you have such an extreme difference when swimming every time?

  • To Tess : Read again. What sndpl75 and me posted is aligned and my screenshots are simple instructions to reproduce the bug. It is beyond me how that can be unclear to you.

It happens every time with F6.

Go pool swim, when finished - check the activity summary screen, and after that calories widget. Calories from you swimming are not included in totals.

  • People - this is not whining... I love the watch.

If you really want to be assured - do the test yourself and post the result here with screenshots from the watch.

  • Just a little comment, 99% i agree with you, but the beta team have always reported back, other that that i have asked about maps, garmin connect etc..... Never a word back.
