All Weather Widget Issues - Post Here

If you do not see your weather updating on your Fenix 6 series watch, please try the following steps:

1) Ensure your watch software is fully up to date and your Connect Mobile APP has been updated.

2) Open the Connect Mobile APP and sync your watch

3) Power your smartphone off and on

4) Power your watch off and on

If still an issue:

5) Step outside and acquire GPS with any outdoor activity

6) Hard Reset - with your watch on, hold down your power button until it shuts off (you will not lose any settings with this reset)

- Also, on all iPhones, due to how iOS works with the GCM APP, you must leave the Garmin Connect Mobile APP open on your phone to remain updated. This does not require you leave your phone unlocked or the APP running in the foreground. When you first sync each day, leave the GCM APP in the background in suspend with all of the other items you have on your smartphone. Do not force close it out.

Your smartphone settings are also an impact:

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app
  2. Select   (upper left corner)
  3. Select Settings
  4. Select App Permissions
  5. Ensure Location is ON.  If not, select Manage (right side in blue)
  6. Select Permissions
  7. Enable Location
  8. Tap the back arrow at the top left to back out and save these settings
  9. Power off and then power back on the Garmin device (where applicable), and sync it through the Garmin Connect app

NOTE: For optimal performance of the Garmin Connect app, ensure that all permission settings are set to on and location set to always for the Connect APP.

Apple

  1. Open the Settings menu on the phone
  2. Select Privacy
  3. Select Location Services
  4. Toggle on if needed
  5. Select Connect from the list of apps on the Location Services screen
  6. Ensure ALLOW LOCATION ACCESS is set to Always
  7. Power off and then power back on the Garmin device (where applicable), and sync it through the Garmin Connect app

Here is our Support Center article for the Weather Widget - The Weather Widget is Not Displaying

For me personally and those I have reached out to, on our Fenix 6 watches, if we do not see the weather updated, we sync through the GCM APP and typically within 30-90 seconds, it will update and show the temperature properly again.

  • I kinow you are aware on this issue and you are fixing it.. I just want to say, that I'm always in the same identical spot and the 236 Km/h windspeed, appeared two days ago for the first time, today is back again. Yesterday the reading was ok

  • I am still gathering examples for our engineers as reports come in. I have sent you a Private Message. Thank you for posting again with a picture example.

  • Thank you for your post. Our engineers are in need of further examples. I have sent you a Private Message to collect more information.

  • Your weather widget screen looks normal to what I see on my Fenix 6X Pro Solar.

  • When checking, be mindful that just because the weather widget shows the temperature does not mean you are getting detailed weather.

After pressing top right to access the detail I usually get this. The widget always shows me the temperature but rarely do I get the weather detail.

  • What you see in the glances view is a cached value, it's nothing to do with the actual weather. For example, I can see the yesterday evening's temperatures in the glances view but get the same 'Waiting for data' when I go to the widget.

If I spend some time to sync/restart the watch/restart the phone/sync, sync, sync at some point I got the current weather data but it's never updated automatically as well as the altimeter either.

I think the two issues might be connected as the watch auto calibrated the altimeter every night earlier and I had weather data on the watch in every morning as expected because during the altimeter calibration the watch gets the location data.

  • why is the watch's GPS not used for the forecast? When my phone is registered in a WIFI network, completely wrong places come to wear.

  •  - The best answer is that it is not as easy as it all sounds. Plus, that would also suggest an ability to satellite communicate the weather data. Now you are talking about a GPS satellite monthly subscription fee like owning one of our satellite emergency communication GPS devices, like the inReach Mini I use with my Fenix 6X Pro Solar.

  • thank you for the Information. Then it would be helpful to see the location of the prediction in the widget, as is the case with the Edge 830

  • If anyone is interested I managed to fix the weather widget sync with an Android phone, I have updates now in every hours and the automatic altimeter calibration also works now.

Even though all permission settings is ON in the Connect app it's not enough at least on Samsung Galaxy with Android 10.

    Steps to fix:

    1. Go to the Android settings page
    2. Select Location
    3. Go to App permissions
    4. Click the Connect app and select "Allow all the time"

That's it. It seems that when Connect app ask you a location permission during or after the install it sets the permission to "Allow only when using the app" by default.
