a very wild guess : from the Fenix 5 Plus forum's Beta sticky post
let it be a very wild guess ...
suggest to post further in the beta firmware thread here fenix-6-series---7-77-beta-release

Have you synced your f6 series device with Express? Perhaps this do the trick?
ok
cleaned up my wild speculating
express sync does nothing
another hard reset and GPS fix does nothing
only left is to install the 2.60 version in the beta zip (not going to do that part)

Even if you put 2.60 file from the beta zip it will remain at 2.80 and show (!) after update. I put 2.60 file in because I was not checking ver number, and after update I got 2.80 (!).
Sttings > System > Software Update. Try updating manually. New update is probably downloaded and waiting to be installed.
The problem is that he already have the latest one (2.80) but the beta asked for a previous version (2.60).

No idea what you just said, but I see the number 4.01 there so I'm assuming you're pointing out that the Beta update has been revised to now include a GPS 4.01 file.
I just re-downloaded the beta and installed only the GPS 4.01 file, everything seems to be good now. Watch is showing GPS 4.01, with no (!) symbol next to it.
Quite big change from 2.8 to 4.0
The main firmware version also jumped from 6.10 to 7.77, they said they only did that to put it line with the Marq version numbers. Probably the same thing for the GPS version number - big version number leap doesn't necessarily mean there was a huge change to the firmware in this case (although, maybe there was? I don't know, they haven't posted a changelog for the GPS firmware update)
