No GPS fix, CPE file missing again

After a period of functioning normally last GPS track had a flaw in it. Did not give it to much attention but after starting an activity yesterday I noticed that the watch fails to get a GPS fix.

There is a CPE file on the watch (checked this) but the watch says it is missing. Tried the soak thing but that did not help. Had this problem before. That time the watch started functioning normally after lots of resets. I don't want to go in to this procedure again because it would mean losing all settings again.

Any suggestions to get the CPE file loaded again?

    hi,

Can you tell me which one buttons press to start this gps test?

no, but please report your findings here in the forum so other users with the same fault can benefit

are you also waiting for a replacement watch from Garmin ?

  • I haven't reported my problem to the hotline yet, but I'll do it tomorrow. I have no more ideas. I'm a little disappointed, I have had a watch for 5 days ...

hi, sorry to hear about your mishap with the new watch

would you be so kind and check on your watch in the about menu the GPS version number

while you are in the about menu, please report back all version numbers Wink like this

did you already started an outside activity outside ?

a drastic last resort would be the usb procedure talked about here

a less drastic action would be to delete the CPE.BIN file on your watch in the REMOTESW folder

or any file in this folder

or delete REMOTESW (your watch recreates this automagically - not 100% sure with MTP Slight smile)

  • System software 9.00

    Cpe missing

I deleted that file many times, and it sync again with GE. I have reseting, hard resetting, reseting to defaults, deleting data and reseting to defaults. Even I back to system software 8.1.

Sync time by GPS doesn't work. GPS fix in all activities doesn't work.

I disabled all map from all activities except basemap and reenabled after hard restart...

    I tried many different things...

no need for CPE.BIN when you do a GPS soak procedure

    • start an outside activity for min 20 minutes and go outside or put the watch on a windowsill

regarding the service menu GPS test

check the ROM and RAM test status on the first screen ?

    • while in the GPS test screen there should show up some numbers instead of --.--
    • you can change 'GPS test' into 'GPS full' by pressing the light button once
    • it should now show a continuous stream of numbers instead of --.--
    • leave the test and service menu by long press light button

  • At first I would like to thank you very much for your willingness to help and your time.

Yesterday and today after your post I started activities for a long time and the watch did not catch the gps signal at all.

In the full gps test I only saw the numbers once, but they disappeared a moment later. The numbers didn't even change when I moved.

    tried this ?

    ...

or delete REMOTESW (your watch recreates this automagically - not 100% sure with MTP )

    • turn off Garmin Express
      • connect watch to usb
      • delete the REMOTESW folder (when possible with MTP)
      • disconnect watch from usb and wait until started
    • turn on Garmin Express
      • connect watch to usb
      • sync with Garmin Express
      • check content of REMOTESW folder (make new REMOTESW folder when missing, and do the resync via GE)
      • disconnect watch from usb
    • check state of CPE in the about menu

do the outside activity or sync time with GPS

    ?

sadly, looks like a phone call to Garmin Support would be the last solution after this

  • Tried this many times before. And now I tried exactly as you wrote. GPS state is missing. After restart and hard restart is the same "missing".

Sync time with GPS doesn't work.

I did "walk" activity, watch does not track this...

Seriously, I'm really tired of combining ...

  • my Fenix 6x Sapp works very well at firmware 6.1, but it was upgraded automatically to 8.1 version and GPS not works any more after that. I checked around and found it is showing CPE missing. it looks this is definitely a bug for the new firmware. thanks to share if you get any update from service center
