PULSE OX READINGS OF GARMIN FENIX 6X IS 5% UNDER REALITY

I feel really disapointed on 2 problems with Pulse OX Oximeter

1. There is a huge difference between the fenix and the reality. The fenix is 5% lower than real

2. I bought the watch with ox meter in order to control better my ox saturation. And ot wpuld be very interesting to be able to activate an alarm in case of low ox meter, which would have to be able to modificate. For example, for me on a real and correct measurement I would like to have an alarm if I'm below 92% for more than 1 hour.

GARMIN: FIX OX PULSE

  • I confirm. If I repeat the measurement I get different results with sometimes huge drift, above 5%. It looks like there is correlation with the heart rate. At low heart rate the SPO is low, in the range of 94%, below 50 bpm. Increasing the heart rate gives a higher SPO, 98% with bpm around 55 and up to 100% with more than 70 bpm. The beurer finger tester is not sensitive to bpm.

  • Mine often reads lower than reality by about 5% sometimes even more. My MD friend has tested his numerous times and said the same.

While not perfect it still can tell you things. I was getting some really low readings while sleeping like low 80's for prolonged periods and the graph was very jaggy.  I also wasn't feeling great and was drained.  Anyway I had a sleep study and sure enough I have sleep apnea.  Now using CPAP and my O2 levels are much better at night.  The O2 line is also significantly better and the graph is much smoother.

Also not sure if this helps but I wear mine on my left wrist during the day. But a night I switch to the right wrist to give the skin a break.  Informally I've found the dent and skin gets rough looking under the sensor which may also contribute to errors.  Swapping arms day v night seems to have helped reduce wonky readings.

  • Try to move the watch by 2 finger width away from hand. This is recommanded in user manual and this is changing a lot the result. In my case, I got 94% typicaly and after this new position most of the time the result are between 98% and 100%.
