Forcing Release updates?

refering to this comic https://xkcd.com/281/ waiting for updates in a rollout is bad.

so:

why is there no way to force updates?

they give out betas like candy for everyone instantly but on the releases the play the na na na! dont be hasty! you have to wait 3 more days! game...

  • If you're going crazy waiting, just install the beta 5.77 update. According to the change logs for 5.77 (beta) and 6.00 (public), there's nothing different between them.

The reason they "roll out" the full release versions is so that if the update starts bricking watches, the problem is contained to a smaller percentage of users.

The beta updates are a free-for-all because relatively few people ever download them.

Side note - funny comic, I'm actually watching a package tracking page in my other browser tab this morning Smiley

  • Betas are voluntary so if you run into problems you have no one to blame but yourself. Well, you can blame Garmin but they didnt make you install it... a software roll out is supposed to be stable so better have a small percentage of failures and stop the update than a large percentage of pissed off folks

  • yeah full agree on rollouts for generic users. this is the safest way. and most of them just dont care about updates. if they come they will be noticed there was an upgrade. fine. _but_ there are more in depth users - like us - who writes into forums, try betas and so on. but there is no option for a early release upgrade. and this i find a bit sad. we help to improve to find - and work out the tremendous bugs still existing in series 6 fenixes which is shocking - coming from years of fenix 5 issues... and no learning whatsoever happend for the next generation as it seems...

  • Nothing on mine either...
