Auto Pause Does Not Work In Indoor Bike App

My Wahoo Kickr is providing speed and distance to the watch, which I can see.  I have enabled Auto Pause (I have tried both When Stopped and Custom).  When I stop pedaling and the speed drops to zero, the watch will not pause the workout.

Has anyone else seen this issue with indoor biking?  I have tried searching the forums, but didn't find anything.

I am running the latest firmware (5.00).

Thanks,

Keith

  • Thanks for explaining.  agree, if the feature is there.  It should work.  Folks can choose to use it or not.

  • I didn't say it was useless. I said I couldn't envisage a need for it when indoor training. My dog doesn't pee on the rug, but sometimes I have to stop my ride to answer the front door for a delivery. The bike may well come to a halt, but my heart is still beating, I'm burning calories and getting a little recovery. I could (auto)pause recording for 60 seconds or so, but I still don't see why I would want to. I still want to record my body metrics even if the bike has stopped.

Also, as a Zwifter, a descent of Alpe du Zwift can take over 6 minutes without pedalling once. It's all part of the ride. The flywheel might stop (it doesn't, since I have a Neo) but I want recording to continue, even if my power and cadence are zero. Same with any other coasting in game.

I guess it all comes down to why you are using the watch to record. What do you lose or gain by having or not having autopause. That's rhetorical, so no need to reply. For my use case the watch is recording data about me - my training load, heart rate, stress, calories, power, body battery etc.. I want those things to continue recording even if my training is interrupted. Zwift takes care of the cycling metrics - speed, ascent/decent, power, heart rate and so on. Those go to Strava. The watch data and Garmin Connect is used to monitor my physical performance and readiness to perform. Even interruptions all contribute to that data.

If it's an advertised feature and you want it to work I have no problem with that. It should, of course, work as advertised if you need/want it.

  • I was able to reproduce this as well on my F6 and FR945.  My Edge device did auto-pause.  I had them set to a custom speed of 2mph.

As for weather it makes sense or not, sure it makes sense for some.  Personally I never use auto-pause for real inside or outside.  No reason to question other peoples motives.  Don't use it if you don't like it.

  • Completely agree (and didnt intent to question them if it sounded like I did)

  • Thanks Mel.  I really appreciate the help.
