Auto Pause Does Not Work In Indoor Bike App

My Wahoo Kickr is providing speed and distance to the watch, which I can see. I have enabled Auto Pause (I have tried both When Stopped and Custom). When I stop pedaling and the speed drops to zero, the watch will not pause the workout.

Has anyone else seen this issue with indoor biking? I have tried searching the forums, but didn't find anything.

I am running the latest firmware (5.00).

Garmin_ODQA I was able to reproduce this as well on my F6 and FR945. My Edge device did auto-pause. I had them set to a custom speed of 2mph.

Thanks for this report. I am able to reproduce this and I'm creating a bug report. I believe the issue is a safeguard to prevent autopause from occurring when a sensor disconnects, but the safeguard is falsely triggering when your trainer is stopped.

When you tried the Custom Autopause setting, what value did you select for speed?

I tried 1MPH or 3MPH....or possibly both. Sorry, I was frustrated and it was 5am in the middle of my workout....and my dog pee-ed on the rug...hence the need to pause.

Autopause is for when you stop moving, not for when you stop pedalling. Whether descending Alpe d'Huez or Alpe du Zwift, without pedalling, is your heart rate not still elevated, but recovering? Are you not still burning calories? If you're in the workout why would you want to pause recording? If you stop to make a coffee or go to the loo then pause manually. There is no sense in autopause for indoor cycling, IMHO. It'll just mess things up.

Well, Ok, your speed sensor reads zero, but so what? You're sat indoors not going anywhere. Your GPS is not enabled. Why do you care about autopause? I'm not being argumentative. I genuinely don't understand why you would care to have autopause doing anything.

I've been riding indoors for four years and have clocked up over 40,000 km on Zwift alone, plus other platforms. Never once has it occurred to me that I would need or even want autopause. It's not crossed my mind.

I started to think about this more. I dont cycle much anymore, just running. But one of the first things I do with all garmin is to disable the autopause. For me I figure, if I stop running (at an aidstation) I still want the overall time reflected in my pact. That is just me.

For cycling, I had not considered auto pause. eezytiger thought if useless, you and OP dont. That got me thinking. I love learning new ways to use the watch. So while indoor cycling, if you stop pedaling, maybe for a brief coast or a rest. You are looking to have the activity actually pause ?

So by using autopause you want to record that actual time in which you legs were moving? Someone in the software group should consider factoring in the cadence sensor then.

interesting to learn the benefits you get from auto-pause in cycling. Good news, sounds like Garmin is already working on an update for you

Regardless, it is a feature of the watch and because it doesn't work and someone online feels it isn't useful, doesn't mean we should walk away and just let it be broken.
