Spotify is slow to download, gets stuck often and drains battery quickly while syching

It slow, 50 songs are taking for ever.  It gets stuck often where I have to back out and try again. On a good note it seems to be able to pick up where it left of. Also the battery drains extremely quickly during the synch with wifi.  I loose 1% of battery faster then i gain 1% of the download, the battery literally drains right in front of my eyes.  Started with a battery at 90%, still trying to get 50 songs synched, not done yet and the battery is now at 73% while the synch is stuck again at 47% complete.  A bug, my setup or is this common?

  • I am having the same issues here. However, I cannot confirm that podcast syncing does not work at all - it just fails very often (no matter how close I stay to my router) and I have to restart the watch to be able to start the download again. If I don't restart, the syncing stays at 0%. But now that it finally went through with the download, it took about 4 minutes for a 1h15m podcast episode.

The software experience with my "flagship" Garmin is catastrophic! Really disappointed...

It would be so much better to sync from the phone. Even browsing through the list of podcasts takes forever and one of my favorites doesn't even show up for some reason ('This American Life' for those wondering)

  • This is not a problem with Spotify, it’s a problem from Garmin as I am having the same issues with Deezer

  • I'm kinda "glad" the other music apps are having the same issue. I tried to update my downloads and got the failed sync message. Then I deleted Spotify from my fenix and loaded it again hoping this will solve this issue but now I don't have any playlist in my watch. The sync % stays in 0%. In an attempt I did, I was able to load from a 140 songs playlist only 5.

Hopefully this issue get solved very soon.

    Regards!! Leo

  • I've only tried Spotify, but it was terrible on several levels.  Podcasts were really hard to load because you had to cycle through them, 5x5 if you were looking for episode 205.  Then after futzing around with it, finally getting the podcasts to transfer, a sizable chunk of battery was gone.

Now I use the cable and Garmin Express.  It's not great but if you do it when you charge it's OK.  Thing is, my phone is an iPhone, Overcast is my  podcast app, so it's never synced with Apple Podcasts.  Still, way better than Spotify, and apparently, all the rest.

Almost forgot, getting random drops during podcasts now.  It just cuts out but I think there's another thread on that problem.

  • It goes quickly (1-2 mins) to 85%, but the rest takes nearly 10 mins. Synced 2 albums today. Few days ago it behaved exactly the same with two different albums. Spotify few meters from. Wifi access point, 1G fibre connection.

  • So after thinking about when this Spotify sync download issue might have started happening for me, I remember I had automatic updates enabled and recently updated the spotify app. I wasn't able to find a way to revert to an older version of the spotify app so I went to my local REI and purchased another Fenix 6 pro to determine if I could narrow it down to my watch/versions.

The first time I tried syncing my 120 song spotify playlist it paused at 3% for a long time and then bam, I got the error "Music Sync Failed". This means it's probably not version related. I even checked if to make sure the watch wasn't on the latest spotify app version too.

Anyways just thought I'd share incase anyone was interested. I'll be returning the watch to REI as defective =)

  • Has this been resolved? Trying to sync 40 songs for 2 days now, only 12 downloaded so far after several retries, it takes 4-5 hours to download 1 or 2 songs

  • Sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't. Yesterday I synced 38 songs in roughly 30 minutes, the other day it was 10 songs in 5 minutes - both times without having to retry. And then there are times where I have to retry 20 times for 20 songs. Can't pin it to any external factors like charging, location, wifi quality...

  • Using a Forerunner 245M, I kept getting sync failures until I stood next to my router holding my synced phone unlocked with the Garmin Connect app open right next to the watch. Managed to sync a playlist with no issue doing that. YMMV, not sure if that applies to the Fenix 6.
