blister and skin irritation from Fenix 6

I bought a Fenix 6 about 2 weeks ago.  After about a week I had a red irritation on my wrist beneath the right side of where the watch sits on my wrist (opposite side of charger).  About 3 days later I had a blister on my wrist beneath where the HRM would rest.  I worked out a couple of times and worked up a moderate sweat wearing the watch and rinsed the watch off with water after each time.  I don't wear the watch when I shower or sleep.  Anyone else having this issue or any idea why I am?

  • After a period of time with constant wear I get a series of pimples under the back of the watch--neatly fitted within the circle.  My dermatologist told me sweat dries, is salt, crystalizes, and then dries out skin, plugs pores.  Wash under it sometimes, use moisturizer, allow a few hours of break once in awhile.  While I do wear Garmins and Apple watches tighter for HR, I occasionally got the issue with mechanical watches.  Back in the Fitbit leakage scares, I used wife's clear nail polish on bottom of watch in case metal allergy was an issue (it's not and my doc says it's not the issue here for most people).  Some might give that a try, but of course not over the HR sensor.

Same thing happened to me with the vivoactive 3. Customer service locked down my post and I will contact them as suggested but glad to see I’m not the only one who experienced this

I had the same irritation. I went to a doctor, made an allergy tests for chemicals and finally got a result. it's allergy reaction to EPOXY RESIN.

That's why I had to give up the entire series of watches Garmin.

It's ridiculous why they use so cheap and allergic material with $1K watches with titanium and sapphire!

That's why I had to change brand to Suunto. If Garmin introduce additional model w/o epoxy resin(for instance with glass ) I will probably back.

  • I have recently switched from a vivoactive 3 with no issues to the 6s pro and have the same blistering. I make sure the back is cleaned after removing to shower, and after sports. I’ve never had this issue with any watch, ever. Not what you expect for £600!

  • Ankle? That is interesting ... Does it measure HR and stress that way?

    1. I have the same pattern of irritation I wear mine on the right wrist though and get sore spots under the back and where the button kind of sits on the top right of the face. I have emailed to see if the metal is made of a known irritant but haven’t yet heard back, now I upgraded from a 735xt which I wore 24/7 for 3 years with no issues whatsoever ever but just a few weeks of wearing this 6s pro I’m having to remove it, swap wrists and wear a plaster under the watch none of these are ideal really. pic is today I had a plaster over it today so it’s not looking as angry this eve. I’m a bit sad about it to be honest. I’ve never had a contact allergy to anything before but it’s so annoying I googled which led me to this here thread.
    2.
  • Yes I have had blisters also under the HR captor of my 5X.
also the epoxy was not stable as it was shattered (a known issue back then, mince has been changed under warranty after a month and half of waiting).
It was tedious but it has disappeared, like it has lost his residue ?
Anyway it was obvious the blisters and rash issue came from the way the captor was manufactured.

No issue on the F6, I wear it loose too. Like I have been wearing all my Garmin since the 5X.
Yes loose change is the solution.;-)

  • I have emailed to see if the metal is made of a known irritant but haven’t yet heard back,

I'm not sure about the rose gold 6S, but my sapphire 6X backing is made of 316 stainless steel (and says so on the back of the case), which is a surgical equipment grade of metal, and not a known irritant.

Edit: I just did some digging and see that the rose gold 6S back is also made of surgical-grade 316 SS. So the case metal is definitely not a problem, but perhaps the rose-gold plating is

Hmm no mention of stainless steel on the back of mine

  • It doesn't look like this?

The pic on the Garmin website shows the text "316 SS" on the back
