Storage Question (New User)

Hi, there.

Noob Fenix 6 user. Trying to upload Spotify play list. Keeps failing. Check in Garmin Connect app under manage storage and it says 15835k and 27 slots.

I was under the impression this watch has 32gb of storage.

Any help is gratefully appreciated.

Ta.

  • "27 slots" refers to how many ConnectIQ apps you can have installed - which has nothing to do with storage, it's based on the processor limitations. The processor/RAM can only handle 32 CIQ apps.

The PRo and Sapphire models do have 32GB of storage in total. But not all of that is available for you to fill with music. The maps use a big chunk of that, something like 8-10GB. Also the OS uses some.

The fact that you said your watch has 15MB of memory remaining (0.015GB) tell me that either you've completely filled the entire watch with music, or maybe you don't have a Pro model.

Hi and thanks for the info.

I can confirm that this is a new device, purchased yesterday and it has no music on it at all. I deleted the 7 song play list that I put onto it. Restarted the device and the phone and it still reads the same amount of kilobytes available.

And it reads in the connect app as a Fenix 6X Pro. Which is cool, as that's what it says on the box and the receipt.

  • Prossesor or Ram is affected when something is loaded and running at real time.

When you download a watch face is like downloading and installing a program. If the watch face for example is not used it just keeps the occupied storage that was installed without affecting Ram or Processor. I suspect that Fenix has two different storages, one for media, maps and activities etc (32 gb) and a second one for apps and the OS (the internal memory). The Fenix OS installs all the programs in this memory which is maybe faster but limited. This thing occurred in Android phones as well in the past.

Whenever you install a watch face one slot is permantly occupied even when not used, this explains why it has this limitation in my opinion.

  • The available 15 MB storage is free for Apps.

  • There's an internal able to keep track of CIQ apps - that's reflected by the number of "slots".  The table is a fixed size, thus the limit.

As far as memory, that's so that the CIQ don't take too much space on the watch.  While many are fairly small, there are some very large one, and when an app is updated, when the update is installed, it takes double the storage.

A dev can exceed the storage limit by sideloading (it's only checked for apps from the store) but can not exceed the number of slots.

  • Hi. Did you figure out about storage? Having same issue. Thanks

  • Same issue here.

I bought a fenix 6S from a local store. The seller said "it can hold 2000 songs"... I came back home and... they sold me the wrong model (6S and not "6S PRO").

I am back today from the same store. They gave me the 6S PRO now (and I am sure of it: reference number OK, name on the back of the case OK - so C.Sco : don't tell me my model is no the 6S PRO, I am sure of it.

I switch the Garmin Connect IQ app on on my iPhone and it shows "Available space: 15 MB"...

    Hey Garmin: please explain why?

  • Hi. I was confused about that as well. These 15mb are for face watch and widgets only. As they are downloaded from store.
you have to connect your watch to computer and open Garmin app to see all the storage available for you. I phoned customer support and they explained.
how to see all storage on the phone I haven’t figured out. Maybe it will be visible after downloading some music.
    hopefully that will help
