GPS Accuracy

I am wondering the F6 performance dips when the battery is low. I have a 14 hours left and did a run. The GPS route is terrible. It has been through ponds and shrinks the run down massively. The black line is the route. I have the google gps  map too and it's no better.

Is the overall distance based on the gps data as my 4 laps are quite a bit shorter than the reality. Is anyone else having gps issues?

I really felt the F6 was the ultimate outdoor watch but I am a disappointed at the minute, especially given the investment.

  • Hello

I shared the same kind of graphs to the support. Please do the same, so we can be several to bring this to their attention.

  • Vivosport have not Galileo or Glonass, you can try to use only GPS. Somebody solved GPS accuracy in this way in the past with some devices.

  • Which settings are you using?

  • It's not only about GPS or not GPS distance but about live calculation during activities and calculation post activities.

Here an interesting article from Strava about it.

  • Sure, I agree. If you need precise live values, it's either a footpod or another watch. Pity, as the GPS tracking seems really on par with other watches. It's just this weird calculation for distance and pace. Personally I'm not very affected, but I can understand if road runners are.

OK thank's my  friend. I will try to run in the city only with the GPS tracking and footpod. And yes  that live pace and distance are important to me! I will share the result...

So I did some running with:
         GPS
         GPS + GLONASS
         GPS + GALILEO
The results are: under near perfect conditions, gps accuracy is almost 100%. When running in a city with trees and buildings, the distance is shortened by 5 to 10%, and the pace is not constant regardless of the settings.
I bought a footpod and ... miracle almost perfect live pace still in the calibration stage.
I have a one question: for outdoor running with  variable conditions for gps, which setting is better for the exact distance:

    pace- always and distance- indoor

    or

    pace- always and distance- always?

  • from which program is the scrren shot?

what was the rsult displayed on both of your devices?

    beta-L-user

  • More tests from a regular run at Vincennes, with some buildings at the start/end, then some trees most of the time. I turned off Glonass, since adding another system doesn't seem to add any accuracy (and it's sucking more power).

With standard GPS, my 6X is doing better than my Ambit 3 Peak. I compared  it to multiples records. It's always better, even with the crap weather of yesterday. The distance is still too short, but my Ambit was also giving a shorter distance than what I measure by tracing the run directly on the map.

So not to say that it's always good and that nobody has issues, but given the Ambit 3 is considered as an accurate watch, the Fenix 6 is really not bad at all! And surely much better than the 5.

It's easy to get depressed by visiting this forum, since we see mostly posts about people having problems. More and more I'm trying to question myself about how important is a reported problem. We all want good results from such an expensive product, but some of the "problems" are not really problems. Yes my GPS track is not perfect, it's sometimes 10m away from my actual position, but then so what ? With the other watches it was the same, and it's quite normal. As long as it's not messing up my distance by 10% or 15%, I'm very happy with what I get from a 80gr device doing so many things.

I wanted to start the year with a more positive feedback. i'm pretty satisfied with my 6X, it's not perfect, but feels really solid to me.

  • I totally agree - my silvester-race of 10km - distance got a result of 9,28!!! km. Analyzing the fenix 6x sapphire gpx-track I got 9,69 km and !! the GPS-track ist (under perfect weather conditions) poor poor poor!

    2 laps á 5 km:

first picture: from right lower side to left upper (should be at the road all to the right!)

second screen shot: also from the right (upper) side to the left (upper) side

first lap was about 4,7km, the second one about 4,5km!

    Polar V800:

    first lap: 5,00 km

    second lap: 4,98km
