GPS Accuracy

I am wondering the F6 performance dips when the battery is low. I have a 14 hours left and did a run. The GPS route is terrible. It has been through ponds and shrinks the run down massively. The black line is the route. I have the google gps  map too and it's no better.

Is the overall distance based on the gps data as my 4 laps are quite a bit shorter than the reality. Is anyone else having gps issues?

I really felt the F6 was the ultimate outdoor watch but I am a disappointed at the minute, especially given the investment.

  • Hello,

We are facing the same issue. I wrote once again to US support (French support did not even answer to my questions) with 7 files in example, where I plot instant speed and average speed per circuit against distance. one example below. I will keep you informed if there is any update / feedback...
km 1 to km2 is a good example, but same for km4 to km5.

    and maybe worst :

  • Could you post the photos or link of the same track with V800 and Fenix 6, please?

  • Ran my first workout with the 6X (firmware 5), with my 5X on the other wrist. I was not expecting anything great from the 6X after reading comments here, but at least, it seems to be better than the 5X (which is not the best watch for GPS accuracy of course...)

Cleaner track from the 6X, the 5X is a bit off on the way back, going on the river. Mostly trees around me, not many. Buildings on one side, not too high. So it's not a very difficult circuit for a GPS, but not the easiest either.

Distance reported by both watches was shorter than the GPS distance :

    • 5.81km for the 5X GPS distance
    • 5.75km for the 6X GPS distance
    • 5.67km Garmin distance for the 6X
    • 5.70km Garmin distance for the 5X

I measured my distance on a map, and the perfect track would be 5.64km. Of course I didn't run follow this map track perfectly, the actual distance must be a little bit longer, but not by much (it was a very simple go and back along a river, always following the road, so I was really never far from the perfect line).

The instant pace displayed on the 6X seemed a bit off, too slow often. But the pace chart seems fine; The heart rate is a bit different from my Scosche Rhythm+. Which one is right, hard to say, the Scosche went wrong at the start (as often...), then both watches were agreeing more or less. It was an easy run without big variations (except at trafic lights...). So hard to conclude !

But after reading this forum a bit too much, I was expecting worse from the 6X. Its distance must be a little bit short possibly, but if all my tracks are looking like this one, I will be more than happy. I already know I won't have the best GPS accuracy, it's a compromise for all the other features (MAPS, lighter, bigger display, MAPS, longer battery life, did I mention the maps ?)

So that's just a 35min first run, not enough to conclude. But I can also mention I did a bike ride in Paris with the 6X, under the worst conditions : buildings around me most of the time, crap weather... The GPS & Garmin distances seem a bit shorter. But given the condition, it's still not bad at all. The 5X was also doing ok on the bike, possibly a bit worse than the 6X.

So all in all, I'm quite happy with what I see. The 5X is not the best reference out there, but even without it as a comparison, I would still find the 6X recording quite fine.

Has anyone noticed a correlation between battery % and GPS accuracy?  I've had some great tracks when battery was high (90%).   I've also had some less than perfect tracks with clear skies,  same route, but I suspect (not confirmed) battery was around 40%.  So too soon to say, but I'm keeping an eye on battery % for a bit.

  • This is 6X Pro Solar vs V800 vs 5X+. The 5X+ is the drunk route. 6X and V800 are very close indeed. Impossible to say which is more correct, but both are good. 5X+ is just embarrassing.

  • The red track color is fenix 6x?

In My fenix 6 pro the track is often shifted 5-10 m to the left in the direction of moving.

  • No, RED is 5X+. If you click to enlarge the photo you can see the key on the left. 6X is CYAN (light blue). V800 is GREEN.

The whole track is about 3.3 km and includes open areas and leafless woodland. Here is a close-up of the woodland area. I did not walk the little loops of the red line from the 5X+...

  • That's interesting. I also thought that the red line was Fenix 6 and that you walked both circles counter-clockwise. That is what I would expect from my Fenix 6.

In my case it's like pamarunkov said: It's always shifted to left in the direction of movement.

Same here. 6X Sapphire. 1sec tracking.
Shifted left in the direction of movement.
