GPS Accuracy

I am wondering the F6 performance dips when the battery is low. I have a 14 hours left and did a run. The GPS route is terrible. It has been through ponds and shrinks the run down massively. The black line is the route. I have the google gps  map too and it's no better.

Is the overall distance based on the gps data as my 4 laps are quite a bit shorter than the reality. Is anyone else having gps issues?

I really felt the F6 was the ultimate outdoor watch but I am a disappointed at the minute, especially given the investment.

And again. Today pace showed and recorded by watch was totally beyond all limits of measurement error. I started to believe that GPS sensor in my unit is defective. Between 3 and 4 km pace on my watch was like 6:00-6:30-7:30 and 2x drops below 9 min/km WTF ?! Of course in lap summary result was rather true 5:38. Today during 16,5 km of run pace speeds and slow down all the time. screen below is only an example what is going on. Looking through this forum I see that only a few people have problem like this. So maybe it is only problem with my and few other fenix 6 units. (Firmware 5.0 fenix 6 saphire titanium. Gps+glonass.)

  • This is not only shifted, this is really a bad track. Which setting are you using and which kind of activity was?

„Track me“, while walking the dog. GPS+GLONAS, 1-Second Recording.

  • In my experience Suuunto S9 was more accurate than my Fenix6X, especially in longer open water swims. And from what my wife told med after the latest update it is no longer wobbly... But for running I have always used STRYD, and calibrated it is by far the best choice.

  • I can second that. My S9 (esp. starting with the 2.9.x firmware) was better than my 6X from the GPS point of view.. At the end I decided for the 6X because of better integration with TrainingPeaks, maps and believe it or not: music ;-) . As I also use a Stryd, the look of the GPS-track is more a cosmetic thing for me.

The topic, however, is about the GPS accuracy of the watch. Not all runners can buy Stryd. They have already paid enough for the Fenix 6 with weak GPS.

  • Another test between 6XPSo and V800 during this morning's dog walk, so quite a bit of stopping and starting to confuse things. Even so, the correlation is pretty good between the two watches. There is one stretch of about 200m where the V800 absolutely did a better job, but mostly it's a bit of give and take. Both placed me on the correct side of the street most of the time and clearly identified a brief detour to knock on somebody's door. I walked twice around a football pitch, once in each direction, passing one side four times in total. Both watches did about equally well here.

    Stats....

    V800 - 4.25 km, +20m, -25m, (net = -5m but should have been 0m) 287kCal (excluding BMR. No HR data)

    F6XPSo - 4.38 km, +27m, -32m, (net = -5m but should have been 0m), 340kCal (including BMR = ~75. Wrist HR)

V800 is GREEN, F6XPSo is RED

  • I read it on another forum. "Fenix 6 pro. I'm having an issue and contacted Garmin rep. I was told to set it GPS and GLONASS and data recording to" every second. "It was still not accurate when I ran 10K race. Then I was told to delete the Activities folder, the NewFiles and RemoteSW folders (as these contain GPS cache files), which I did. "
After installing GPS + GLONASS and deleting the specified folders in the watch itself, a miracle happened, the accuracy of the track is almost perfect. Probably every time then you change the combination of satellites you must
    delete cache files.

    Can this be true?

  • I don't see how. The Activities folder contains only activities that can of course be removed from the watch and saved elsewhere - I do this every week or so anyway. The NewFiles Folder is generally empty anyway but no reason why your shouldn't delete the contents. The RemoteSW folder usually only has the current CPE.bin file which can be deleted but remember to either synch with your phone or GE to get an updated one.

    Short answer, it's possible.

  • I've no complaints with this between a 945 and F6 Sapphire
