Anyone STILL having heart rate accuracy issues with their Fenix 6?

Hi all,

Super frustrated, but I am still having issues with my Fenix 6S and heart rate accuracy even with the 4.20 software update. I'm wondering if it's just me or what the deal is? I had a 5S Plus before this and had no issues doing the same activities so I really don't think it's user error. My heart rate hardly reads over 110 during really vigorous exercise when my heart rate is closer to 160+. I have tried wearing on the inside of my wrist, tried my other wrist with no luck. It consistently reads 80-110 bpm the whole time. I wouldn't have bothered to upgrade if I knew this was going to be an issue. I know that wearing a chest strap is the most accurate, but I don't like to have to wear it for all of my work outs and my old Fenix was totally fine as well as my apple watch before that. Any suggestions?

  • there seems to be nothing we can do about it.

Of course there is. Return your watch and buy a competitor's watch that works for you.

Garmin are working hard to improve WHR so that it works for as many people as possible.

  • "No, not yet. This 2.53 version only fixes the stepped elevation. However, we are aware of the HR issues that users are reporting, and we are working on a fix for that as well. We will provide a fix for this issue as soon as we can."

    3 months, no fix.

  • Sorry but just a few days ago Garmin release a new watch with the same sensor in it.

Update watches every year is a good business model.

Alternative is suunto which sells 4+ years old watches at over £350.

    No thanks.

  • I bought the Fenix 6 Sapphire last december and have had the same problem -watch shows 99bpm, actual value 156bpm is typical going uphill. not as far out around 80-90bpm. as a hrm it is not fit for purpose Garmin need to fix it or stop selling this watch until it's solved. I bought this watch based upon their past "good" reputation.

  • Obviously don't know where you are from but I understand that most countries have a Sale of Goods Act or similar whereby if a product is shown to be

    not fit for purpose

that it can be returned for a full refund. If you believe this is the case, and you have the ability to seek redress through the appropriate laws in your country, then you should open a case.

  • Agree :)  I  also have no issue at all with the oHR - actually very  impressed with it!

I compare it at times with readings from my TickrX strap and it differs on ave with 1 BPM.  NO Complaint :)

  • The OHR on my Fenix 6 Sapphire is far less accurate than my Fenix 5 Sapphire or any of the many Mio wrist based OHR units I have owned which all compared favourably with my Garmin chest strap. I am acutely aware of the fitting requirements to obtain accurate readings from wrist based optical monitors and the Fenix continues to read high by 50-60 bpm during activities. 24 hr monitoring performance is perfectly acceptable.

  • And others would say the opposite - great during activities, not so good when not in an activity. Interesting eh? Someone’s correct.

  • Maybe everyone is. I can only comment on my own experience..
