Anyone STILL having heart rate accuracy issues with their Fenix 6?

Hi all,

Super frustrated, but I am still having issues with my Fenix 6S and heart rate accuracy even with the 4.20 software update. I'm wondering if it's just me or what the deal is? I had a 5S Plus before this and had no issues doing the same activities so I really don't think it's user error. My heart rate hardly reads over 110 during really vigorous exercise when my heart rate is closer to 160+. I have tried wearing on the inside of my wrist, tried my other wrist with no luck. It consistently reads 80-110 bpm the whole time. I wouldn't have bothered to upgrade if I knew this was going to be an issue. I know that wearing a chest strap is the most accurate, but I don't like to have to wear it for all of my work outs and my old Fenix was totally fine as well as my apple watch before that. Any suggestions?

  • Oh ok. Thats what i did. Hooked it up via garmin express. So i should be covered. Is it normally advisable to i stall beta firmware? Noticed there's a beta version out but have been reluctant to install. And thank u for taking the time to answer my newbie questions. I really appreciate it

  • That's entirely up to you. I run with beta versions all the time - I like to live dangerously lol! In reality I'v never had major issues with beta updates. Others would disagree.

However, and I just know that I'm likely to get called out on this, I'd refrain from adding anything from the CIQ store for a week or three until you've got used to the watch and what it does in its 'natural' state. Assuming you're happy then think about adding different watch faces, data fields etc. Sometimes those add-ins do cause problems, especially after Garmin have made a software change.

  • I was off the day i received it and spent most of the day understanding it. There's alot. But i did add GearMin & Actiface faces, gym timer pro, ergiq, & weather radar& gpsmetrics widgets. Havent noticed anything funky yet. Still have alot to learn, hence the many questions.  Tnks again

  • Interesting finding. What is loosened abs tightened mean to you exactly? I mean no challenge, just trying to understand in order to try to replicate.

Here is my comparison between my old device which gave me hr in what I thought seemed realistic based on my huffing and puffing, same strap snug tightness.  Tightness in the sense of the watch feels glued on my hand if i suddenly sprint then prompt stop.  In that I don't feel gap due to force studen acceleration of hand, between hand and watch.

Indoor soccer. Manual activity, no GPS. Fenix 6 connect.garmin.com/.../4460099089 (Sat on the bench at least half dozen times, resting)

Fenix 3 hr connect.garmin.com/.../3320190568 (You can see where I rested. Was better then now)

  • Tight meant that it held its place above the wrist bone. Loosend allowed it ride over the wrist bone

With my F3HR I was able to complete my 150 Intensity Minutes even if I did not start an activity, the whole week. My F6X is giving me exactly zero of those since I got it.

IT really does not work. Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper frustrated. Worst customer experience ever.

  • Just noticed  an update for some (not sure why for some). And inside the notes it states Added support for Low Heart Rate Alerts. (Wrist Heart Rate > Heart Rate Options > Abnormal HR Alert)

It really does surprise me.  I have owned many Garmin products and loved them all.  This one experience has been bad all around.  The product has been a big let down.  Customer support is next to unresponsive.  The company just isn't communicating with it's customers.  Fastest way to destroy a brand.

  • Reported by those who got it, that it makes no difference to the hr :(
