Anyone STILL having heart rate accuracy issues with their Fenix 6?

Hi all,

Super frustrated, but I am still having issues with my Fenix 6S and heart rate accuracy even with the 4.20 software update. I'm wondering if it's just me or what the deal is? I had a 5S Plus before this and had no issues doing the same activities so I really don't think it's user error. My heart rate hardly reads over 110 during really vigorous exercise when my heart rate is closer to 160+. I have tried wearing on the inside of my wrist, tried my other wrist with no luck. It consistently reads 80-110 bpm the whole time. I wouldn't have bothered to upgrade if I knew this was going to be an issue. I know that wearing a chest strap is the most accurate, but I don't like to have to wear it for all of my work outs and my old Fenix was totally fine as well as my apple watch before that. Any suggestions?

  • hardware problem / software problem, it make no difference for me. the product does not work and garmin is not interested to solve the issue or is not able to solve it since 3-4 months.

returned by fenix 6x pro today, my local dealer will clarify it now with garmin directly. hopefully I get my money back withing 1-2 weeks.

  • I want to upgrade back to 4.20. I don't need dog tracking, cat tracking activities. It is possible downgrade himself?

  • I am almost certain that i read somewhere that u couldn't go backwards.

  • Do you need current CIQ Apss like watch faces, data fields and so on? Then you have to stay anyway. Otherwise they won't work in most cases.

  • You can reload earlier versions of software but you will lose all user data and settings. Unsure how far back you can go as updated sensors might require later software. And I'm unsure if you can downgrade the various sensors.

  • Just for fits and giggles I played around with watch band tightness while out for a walk this lunchtime. This is the outcome and highlights the importance of having the band correctly fitted. I do wear mine quite loose generally and have a tan line from the watch that covers the wrist bone. However, that does not appear to affect my all day HR.

And yes I do understand that there are people talking about issues tracking 'active' heart rate without starting an activity. And I do know this has nothing to do with that issue.

This little experiment was purely to illustrate the importance of having the watch correctly fitted when recording an activity, even one as simple as walking.

  • I just received my watch 2 days ago and am new to this, but wanted to ask u something.  Are sensors software separate from the firmware software?

  • Yes. They are usually presented separately.

  • Wow. I upgraded to firmware 5 when i first received it but never knew i also had to upgrade my sensor software. So does each sensor have its own software update?

  • I think when you connect your watch to your computer and open garmin express, it takes care of everything. The watch may reboot twice. i think when i got my watch, firmware, gps, sensor hub, all got updated.
