Widget Weather - Where does it come from?

Where does the weather forecast come from that I see in the widget list? It's so far wrong that I feel it's for a different location..

I've read the manual and all I can find is that it comes from my smart phone.. But how does it know location? Can we point it to a weather site that actually works?

  • Hmm, thanks for the link. So it's a common problem. :-(  Does Garmin have a list of 'known issues' for products, so that while a solution may take a while at least we know they are aware.

All their clock faces have weather as an option to show, and the widget is placed near the top it was something I was excited about having in a watch and now ... Now it tells me the day is nice and sunny when we actually had 30 mm of rain. Crazy.

  • Yeah, that's super helpful. In looking at the weather sources for my past activities, I notice that all of them were from an airport, military base or ski resort many miles away from where the activity took place. I'm guessing maybe they were thinking of pilots but for the rest of us, not very useful.

I would think they could use a weather data source that could be more localized (or at least allow a choice). Now finally knowing this (after having the same question/issue with multiple Garmin watches in the past), I definitely won't be using the watch data field for current temperature.

  • Hi, I'm not so concerned about the temp reading but as a cyclist I am interested in the wind strength and direction and I have no idea where my XT920 gets it's data from but it is certainly not where I was or even the same country! According to Garmin I was getting a 6kph wind from the North, when it was from the West at 15-19kph. Sort yourselves out Garmin

  • In fact, this is a very useful widget that allows you to watch the weather conditions every day and you will never get caught in the rain without an umbrella using this widget. It appeared on my phone quite recently, with a new version of android. I don't understand how I used to live without this widget, because it's so convenient. I had to connect to the Internet every time and watch the weather on https://www.worldweatheronline.com/weather-api/ but now, thanks to this widget, I don't even need the internet and a browser, I can just see the weather in my phone information bar. If this theme is not for you, then I think you can easily remove it in the phone settings, but I assure you that this widget will still be useful for you, so think about it. Good luck!

  • Perhaps after you bought a new phone and turned it on for the first time, this widget automatically started working. Try disabling it in the settings.
