Maps from other region

I bought my watch from the US but travel frequently to Europe and live in Asia.  I noticed in the latest Garmin Express update that it downloaded "Coverage of Europe" and "Coverage of Pacific", but it still didn't show any kind of map data on the watch.  I know about the openmaps.nl hack and I have subsequently downloaded the relevant regions - but i'm curious what that 'coverage' contains or if there is something that I need to do to activate those maps. Thanks.

  • Thanks guys, but:

http://garmin.opentopomap.org --> points to a starting page of some sorts and not much else

garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ --> Only says "Apache is functioning normally"

  • Then read the site somewhere it says "Download".

When you click that link with your mouse it will open a other webpage with several Regions and behind that are links to the files you need.

Both links are working fine with me.

  • Hello,

For Europe and other countries in the world, I suggest very good maps that can be downloaded from:

    https://openmtbmap.org/(Germany).

All these maps are built from OSM data, but the work done for producing these maps (raw data processing) are for me at the top level in comparison with all other osm maps.

You will find at this link:

    https://www.cjoint.com/c/IJlrUjdptsl

an example of maps in a pdf file (compressed in a "rar" file), that shows:

    - a map with 3 parts of Europe, that can be used for the Ultra Trail Mont Blanc (at the borderline of France, Switzerland and Italy).

    - a zoomed view of the maps,

    - 3 screen captures of the map displayed on Garmin 66S (I have no idea of how the same map could be displayed on a Fenix 6x), so I would like to know if such map could be easily used in that device.

The maps of each country in Europe can be downloaded individually and freely, but If you want to have simultaneously countries at the borderline, you need to be a premium user to download all countries of Europe.

As mentioned by openMTBmap.org, you may have a message error on the recent Garmin devices like Gpsmap 66, (for me why not on Fenix 6), that indicates "cannot authenticate maps".

To solve the problem you will need to download the "Non Unicode Maps" (see: Non Unicode download map on https://openmtbmap.org/ and also the list of Garmin devices that can be affected).
