Two Sapphire Fenix 6 Pro’s, backlight / contrast issues

I bought two fenix 6’s today, both are the Carbon grey DLC coated with sapphire glass.

Have a look at these photos, my wife's is on the left hand side and mine the right. Her looks very yellow compared to mine which looks far crisper and sharper. Both have backlight set to 50%.

Any thoughts on if there’s a setting other than backlight that could cause this before I go back to the shop where I bought them?

I'm still on the fence from switching from Polar.

Appologies then. I am just so fed up with the bullying.

  • Well, I apologize if my post are being perceived as bullying.  That is not my intent.  I was more curious then anything else about the battling back and forth with people saying nothing new.  Just an outsider's view point, but  everything could have been expressed with less than half of the post that appear here.  It is very informative though.

Welcome to the forum. I hope you don't have a bad impression of us ;-) I had a Polar Watch before and made the jump to Garmin a few months ago. I don't regret it and to have a forum is very nice too :-)

  • Thanks for the support mate. I agree with you...I don't think that next garmin watches will face this issue again after all this noise.

Well your post is wrong, at least as my mention in it. I already returned my F6 2 months after I bought it and got a different watch. I ALWAYS buy my Garmin's from a local dealer who has a 2 year protection package return policy, no questions asked. I have already returned 3 different models and am happy with my latest one. It is just obnoxious to hear the same thing over and over and over, thread after thread. With that, I'm out as I am happy with my replacement Garmin and wish you guys all the best with your watches.(AND displays)

  • I don't think that it's the right thing to leave. This issue will be resolved if it's not resolved. The fire is almost over, sorry if this thing became a reason for you to leave the forum. Even if it's totally opposite to your mentality, just ignore it. There are a lot of useful things in this forum, it's not worthied.

At the end of the day we are all consumers, even if we disagree in this subject I am sure that there are many more subjects that we agree on.

  • There is nothing wrong in posting photos of "good" and "bad" Fenix displays. George has shown his new purchase with the best display I have seen in Fenix so far, well, it looks like the one in Garmin adverts and videos. Moreover, he posted photo of his new Fenix only once I think, and as I can see here, most his posts as replies to people asking about his new Fenix 6. And he is not telling anybody to send his Fenix back etc. He is just sharing his own experience with these watches.

And I will repeat myself - there is so many variations of F6 display. I had five of them. Today I have sent one back again as this was the worst one I have had - it was not blueish, it was violet, poor colours, viewing angles unacceptable. Yes, I know what I am saying cause I had many Edge bike computers, and still got Edge 1030, I had Fenix 5X and I got Vivoactive 3. All of them had better screens regarding contrast and colours than F6. I can look at my Edge 1030 from every angle, it has not got black display, it will never have as it is MIP display (same type as F6), but the gray one.

It does not matter that Garmin may be, as people here keep saying, the best fitness/outdoor watch at the moment. But it does not mean that they can install any display they want cause WE ARE THE BEST. I am very close to QC in my job, and our customers demands best quality, they want to see improvements all the time, even if they are one of the best known companies in the world. Cause they know that customers remember and they got to be on the top all the time. Being the best does not mean you can slow down. No, people demand more and more all the time and good company is aware of that.

If you are happy with your watch and colour of the backlight just stop reading this thread. Simple as that. This is the thread for people who wants to know what is wrong with these displays cause they differ a lot, or they want to make sure that blueish displays are as good as others. If you happy with your Fenix, ignore this thread please.

You demand us to stop discussing the problem with display, maybe you should stop telling that there is everything ok as well? And Garmin admitted that they differ and it is normal.

It is completely normal that people want the watch with better, in this case, display with good black backlight, good contrast and colours. At the end of the day, it costs a lot (most expensive outdoor watch, well it can compete with Casio Rangemaster but it is not a fitness watches), and we buy this watch not only for training as many people are trying to suggest here. I will be wearing this watch full day or full week, 24 hours a day, and I want my watch to look very good on my hand, for myself, not for somebody else, and this how it was advertised. It has been designed to be worn all the time to track your health etc. all the time. So I am looking for a nice looking Fenix 6 watch since I have found out, here, that there are different versions of display in these.

My screen is fine. 6x sapphire...

And even if it had a blue tint within specs it would still be fine.

I'm not a fanboy but I'm just sick of all this garmin bashing over a topic that most of us are sick of hearing about over and over.

Maybe they should start a garmin backlight forum so the rest of us who actually use our devices for what they are meant to be used for don't have to be subject to this same topic over and over and over and over.

Couldn't you just not visit this particular topic if you didn't care for it?  There are dozens of topics on this forum that you probably don't care for that you don't click in to express your disinterest.  I don't care for Amazon Music so I avoid that topic.  But I don't tell anyone in there that they shouldn't post their concern 'because Amazon is a 3rd party and Garmin shouldn't be held to the failure of the service.  Stop complaining'.  Because that would be super silly.

I just registered so I could specifically keep track of the backlight issue. But I will probably stick around for more once my issue is resolved.

From what I've read so far it's not much Garmin bashing.  I don't think variations like this are common anywhere in any consumer electronics.  It's a legitimate concern before or after spending $1,000 on a watch.

With that being said your watch looks great!  If I could be assured that I received one like that I'd buy now!

Edit:  I just thought I'd mention that on the Reddit Garmin Subreddits there have been multiple examples of non-blue screen 6x's popping up in the last week.

I purchased my 6X Sapphire today from Best Buy online and picked it up instore. Thankfully, my screen appears to be just fine. The first 5 of my serial are 63404.
