Two Sapphire Fenix 6 Pro’s, backlight / contrast issues

I bought two fenix 6’s today, both are the Carbon grey DLC coated with sapphire glass.

Have a look at these photos, my wife's is on the left hand side and mine the right. Her looks very yellow compared to mine which looks far crisper and sharper. Both have backlight set to 50%.

Any thoughts on if there’s a setting other than backlight that could cause this before I go back to the shop where I bought them?

Was yours an online battle or in a store? I’m planning to do the same. I’m going to be like a dog with a bone over this.....

Customer service said that they wouldn’t exchange it as they could not guarantee that I wouldn’t get sent the same blue tint version. There reasoning for the difference in colour is due to having different component suppliers depending on where the unit was produced. They seemed to be pretty content with the fact that there are huge differences between models, almost as if we’re lucky to have something quirky.....my  serial number is 63402....

That was the serial number for my first 6X!

For me I was lucky that I had only had the watch for a week and could send it back to the store that supplied it online for a refund - didnt mention the blue screen just said it was unsuitable.

The second I received was 6342x and the screen was a ton better, However at first all buttons had a clean 'click' then the right side started to morph into 5X style operation (ie a bit of travel before the click).

So sent that back and reordered.

This is my first foray into Garmin and I must admit I have not encountered a product with so many issues previously. If they didnt have a monopoly (well for the features I want like maps etc) I think they would struggle.

Nice, Same story with me, I had a 6X Saphire 63400XX with a blueish screen, after a month of fighting, Garmin finally refunded me for the watch and I waited till last week and finally picked up a Tactix Delta....and WOW, cannot believe the difference.  Night and day.

  • hahaha It's the photo you took it that makes the difference, not the screen of the watch! Just kidding Smiley

  • What view is showing on the screen? I've never seen that before.

  • The blue screen is very real and Garmin's QC is pretty terrible for their flagship watch. I took these several months ago and unfortunately did not get the SN off of the blue screen watch I sent back in because the HRM was awful (new one isn't any better). But after reading this thread I decided to check out the screens, and you can see there is a massive difference. Also, the HRM's are slightly different...

  • Well, maybe I was too brief and overstated the minor difference.

I was trying to find the angle where the screen readability worsens rapidly. The angle seems to be roughly the same on both watches (Fenix 6S Sapphire and Fenix 5S). I have taken a photo at about the point.

In my original experiment, the 6S Sapphire seems to be slightly better. On the photo, I can barely see the number 20 on 6S Sapphire, but I can see nothing on the 5S. But this might have been imprecise measurement, maybe caused by a different screen height of those watches.

  • Hmm, I see what's wrong, but I have some good news for Garmin. The watches are not to blame, the camera is the issue. When I look at the watches directly, they have much better viewing angles than on my photo, maybe something similar to your photo. So, the particular photo was quite overexposed – just my camera does not get it in the dark. The confusing part is why it affects just some angle. I guess the reason is that the light area of the photo gets smaller, so it adjusts the camera. And yes, when the camera sees just one watches, the effect is more noticable. Also, when I put my watches farther from the camera, I can see similar effect.

So, I am sorry for the bad photo. I will probably remove it from the album in order to not confuse more people.
