Installing maps on fenix 6 fails

Hi, I have a strange issue. All updates seem to have worked and the map Coverage updates all installed without issue. Only the TopoActive Europe 2019.10 won't install always giving error installing update. I have tried Garmin Express on Mac (main computer) and Windows even reinstalled Garmin express and reset fenix 6 to factory defaults. Nothing seem to work to install the updated map. See picture

Any one suggestions or the solution?

  • Update device to beta 5.72. Update express to new version .4.  Still cannot install africa topo maps. Any luck on your side

    Hi Not yet - They did answer my email - They know about the problem and are working on it - I will post as I hear from them 

  • Same issue on a Fenix 6X. It’s an activation error on the Garmin server end (as originally identified by another user). My logs on both Windows and MacOS for Express show HTTP500 errors returned during the activation phase for the install of Africa Topo maps.

    After the initial tick and flick emails in response to a support request I got to send through what I had/had done. Similar response to others, now with engineering.... seems like a simple problem to me, their server is borked and rejecting activation.

    Hi,

    The error reported by the application is about as a generic as it gets - there's some feedback for your development team there, error reporting is only of use if it at least provides some idea as to the cause of the error (as for most end users it is their only point of reference). Image of the error from Garmin Express is attached to this email.

    Also attached is a copy of the log file, the extract of interest demonstrating it to be a sever side issue is pasted below. A HTTP 500 error is a server side error, the log seems to indicate this is due to activation not completing successfully.

    1. The issue occurs on MacOS Catalina and Windows 10 (1909) OSes
    2. The issue occurs regardless of network (home wifi network, wired network, tethered phone connection)
    3. The MacOS log contains the same/similar entries and references a 500 error also
    4. The issue occurs regardless of device connection (direct to host computer or via a USB hub)
    5. The issue occurs after deletion of the downloaded topo map and re-download of the affected map

  • Same here. Still not sorted out. Same issue. It has really been a long time now. It is a major feature of the new watch and we can't use it. It's been a long time now without a fix.

    I have same issue also. Bought mine a few days ago. Garmin please sort it out. 

  • Same issue and i just got my 6S two days ago. Based in South Africa. 

  • I loaded the 2019.20 Europe Topo Active files onto a OneDrive account if anyone needs them and can't update.

    The new maps are called d6185070a.* and gmapprom.*
