Installing maps on fenix 6 fails

Hi, I have a strange issue. All updates seem to have worked and the map Coverage updates all installed without issue. Only the TopoActive Europe 2019.10 won't install always giving error installing update. I have tried Garmin Express on Mac (main computer) and Windows even reinstalled Garmin express and reset fenix 6 to factory defaults. Nothing seem to work to install the updated map. See picture

Any one suggestions or the solution?

    Hi All

Garmin came back with a very generic answer which says it is up to myself to fix it - please raise more tickets. This not acceptable. I am not clueless - I have done what are suggested

See below - I am very disappointed

    Good day Marius,

Thank you for contacting Product Support.

If Garmin Express displays one of the following errors, there may be an issue with your internet connection or your computer's settings.

    • "We are unable to add this device because our servers are unavailable at this time."
    • "Sorry, we're having a problem communicating with our servers."

    Resolution

    1. Ensure that Garmin Express is up to date

      • Update Garmin Express to the current version.

    2. Ensure the Internet connection meets the system requirements for Garmin Express

      • A high-speed Internet connection is required. Garmin Express is not intended to be used with mobile broadband (such as MiFi, AirCard, or cell phone tethering), satellite, fixed wireless, or dial-up Internet connections.

      • For detailed information, see the FAQ Internet Connection Restrictions that can Prevent the Successful Download of Maps.

    3. Check the Date and Time Settings on the computer

      • Incorrect date and time settings on the computer can cause communication errors between Garmin Express and the Garmin servers. Verify the date, time, and time zone settings are correct on the computer.

    4. Temporarily disable Internet Security/Firewall

      • Although most security software will not interfere with Garmin Express, some security software (such as software which is used on work computers or in a business environment) may cause this error. If possible, try temporarily disabling the software. If you cannot disable it, it will be necessary to use a different computer.

    5. Check the proxy settings on the computer

      • Incorrectly configured proxy and/or LAN settings may affect the connection between the Internet and Garmin Express. Verify the Proxy Settings are Correct on a Computer.

    6. Disable Virtual Private Network
      • If applicable, disable any VPN (Virtual Private Network) that is in use. If this is not possible, use a different computer and/or network connection.
    7. Uninstall Garmin Express

      • To uninstall Garmin Express from the computer, see the FAQ Full Uninstall of Garmin Express.

    8. Restart the computer

      • Note: Shutting down, pressing the power button, or closing the lid on a notebook computer may not effectively restart the computer on some operating systems.  Follow the instructions below to ensure that the computer is completely restarted.

        Windows 8.1 and higher Windows 7 MacOS/OS X
        1. Right-click the Startbutton
        2. Click Shut down or sign out
        3. Click Restart
        1. Click the Start button
        2. Click Arrow forward next to Shut Down
        3. Click Restart
        1. Click the Apple icon in the menu bar
        2. Click Restart...
        3. Click Restart to confirm

    9. Reinstall Garmin Express

      • To reinstall Garmin Express, see the FAQ How Do I Install Garmin Express?.

Garmin Express should now be able to connect to the server. If not, try a different computer or a different internet connection.

Hope you have a good day,

    Ronald

  • It seems to be an windows issue, as it works fine at my mac.

  • Im on a mac, as are a few other on this thread. It's specific to the Africa Map System, Europe also loading fine on my watch.

  • I got a similar response from the same guy the other day with a different issue haha.

I tried it on two Macs - it fails constantly. I downloaded the topo maps for NZ and Aus with no errors - using the same Macs

  • On Mac as well. All other maps updated without an issue except the Africa one.

Everybody having a download issue of the AFRICA map please log a call with Garmin to get their attention. Lets make it a team effort

  • I have already tried the above.  BTW when you uninstall Garmin Express with remove all files, the Garmin Windows Registry Keys are NOT removed.  These should be removed.  This is another Garmin issue.  As a result, a clean install cannot be performed.  I have already tried this on 2 different laptops, Windows 10.

The issue is with the update mechanism and the software connection with the Fenix 6

Just got back from a ride and notice that the Heart Rate reading from the Fenix 6 is significantly lower than the chest strap.  My old Vivo unit was more accurate and consistent. Disappointed  The same for all rides with the Fenix 6.

  • Oh, no, not again! And wrong thread here!
