Replying to messages not possible

Hi,

I am not able to reply to messages on my F6X. On my F5X i was able to reply with the configured Texts, discard the message or even block the App. With Apps like Gmail i was even able to delete the mails from my watch.

Now with my F6X the only option is to discard the message.

Have i missed a new setting for that?

Regards,

Jörg

Not sure what's going on for you; I can respond on the 6 Pro. All the options are there for me when I receive a message.

  • On 5x, when you clicked "down", it went to possible actions - dismiss, archive, delete and so on, on 6 if you do that, it executes the action you're seeing displayed - so it dismisses the message. To obtain other actions, you have to click the "triangle" button, so it goes into the message and scroll all the way down, they are there.

    I hope i'm being clear :) As a side-note, i preferred the 5x method, was way faster.

  • You're still using Android, right? IOS locks out any device besides the apple watch from responding.

  • Hi ,

thanks a lot. That was exactly what i was looking for. Yeah, i thought it would be as easy as it was on my 5X ...

  • Hi ,

yes. Sorry forgot to mention. I am using Android.

  • Really, it's more complicated now? I considered making a feature request to access the answer option faster on the F5 already..

  • I don't know who in Garmin UX department thought this was a good idea. The advantage of using Android over iOS with Garmin is justly to be able to interact with the notifications. Now I need to open them to be able to do anything with them, before I could just do it quicker. Now consider a GMail/Email notification, I need to scroll, scroll, scroll and scroll to just be able to interact with the email. Some of them are junk, before I could just delete them right away. Please Garmin, revert that change, it's plain stupid.

  • Garmin says this is a "known issue" but who knows if they will come out with a software update to resolve this.

I loved being able to, using my F5X, immediately archive an email, especially when it pops up and I'm DRIVING (because I didn't want to deal with it).

There's a solution now, but it's counter intuitive and dangerous (hence the emphasis on the word driving). You need to press the top right button a couple of times (5-8x), and that will enable you to scroll through the entire message to get the options.

I hope Garmin is actually reading this to realize how incredibly dumb this is. I don't want to read MY ENTIRE EMAIL (or as much as Garmin processes) on my watch. I want to archive it or deal with it for later, but the unnecessary scrolling is ridiculous and this particular feature in general makes me wish I still had my old Fenix 5X Plus. What a backward update.

  • I thought you should know that the issue was documented as PSC-84402 and Garmin decided to ignore us and keep it as a permanent change. I'm so upset.

No to be pedantic. But UX (the dept) wouldn’t be empowered to make a decision like this.  This is squarely on the product manager.  Who decided either that they wouldn’t do this at all or that they wouldn’t do it right now and prioritized other features over this one.   UX probably had a voice in the final decision and was ultimately tasked with dealing with the tradeoffs - but blame the PMs.
