Sapphire vs. Glass Screen Protector?

Am I missing something? Why would I purchase a sapphire crystal watch (+$100.00 6x pro) over a $5 glass screen protector, especially in 'light' of the fact the sapphire model permanently reduces screen clarity and light transmission? Bragging rights?

    hi all,

posted somewhere else in this forum as well.

I tried a screen protector, nano-self-healing on my 6X PS and looks cheap and ads reflections.

I removed it and put back on half of the screen to see the difference.

    3-6 o'clock the window reflection.

3-5 o'clock reflection from the screen protector.

5-6 o'clock less reflection due to Power Glass treatment.

maybe a glass protector would behave better but slim.

for me, the screen protector is a no go in this moment.

    just me,

    robert

  • Here are pictures of my Tempered Glass screen protector that came today. I just got the Forerunner 935 one. Seems to fit good. There might be slight more reflections...but I only had the watch for 1 day without it so I dont remember. I had a plastic one on my 5x, and honestly didnt even notice it after awhile. I went with glass here and so far I like it.

Sapphire >>> gorilla glass. hands down. most phones have gorilla glass and it's junk. who here hasn't broke a gorilla glass phone screen? quality watches have Sapphire. Disappointed garmin wasn't able to figure a way to put the solor tech with a sapphire crystal, but it is what it is. "slightly" longer battery life is not worth it, IMO, you still have to charge it. Maybe if it was completely independent of cord charging, it "might" be worth it and the decision would be more difficult, but I went with the 6x sapphire DLC, couldn't be happier. have a fenix chronos and old 5x both with sapphire and beat the s**t out of them, scratches all over the bezel and bands, but flawless lens. piece of mind. Quality watches have Sapphire crystal, period.

  • I havent used a screen protector on my last 2 phones and I have no had any cracks and noticeable scratches. This was true in the early days but now Gorilla glass holds up very well.

Can anyone post links or brand/name of  good screen protectors? Available in Europe preferably.

I decided to give it a try and see...    I just bought one from the same brand I use for my mobile which does the trick: no reflections and it protects it from scratches.  I'll see if the ones ordered are good on the watch. Brand name is brotec. Company is based in Germany: protectofilms. Hopefully it's worth it.

They do have different versions, width and protection. Depends what you are looking for. I ordered matt and clear glass.

  • I have some pretty high end watches with sapphire glass crystals.  I've scratched a few.  Gorilla glass and mineral crystal is much easier to scratch.  I had a sapphire crystal on my 5X plus.  I ordered the 6x with gorilla glass because I was never happy with the visibility of the sapphire compared to my wife's Vivoactive even with a tempered glass screen saver on her watch.  I tried a plastic screen saver on the 6x and it was terrible.  I've got tempered glass screen savers on order.

  • Which one did you order for your 6x?  I need to order one as well.

  • This glass one fits 6x pro solar perfectly:

Very good quality and covers an entire screen

  • Can you please add a photo (device with protector)? Thanks

    And you know this?

    From the Garmin FAQa:

Can I use a screen protector with the fenix 6X Pro Solar?

Garmin does not recommend the use any kind screen protector, as it will reduce the solar intensity received by the Power Glass lens.”
