Glass: scratch resistance

Hi,

so seems like the Fenix 6 series have now three types of glass: Gorilla glass, Sapphire glass and "Power glass" (solar). Most probably the Sapphire will be the most scratch resistant glass, but what about "Power Glass"?

    From F6 FAQ on the Garmin Homepage:

    "What is the difference between Corning® Gorilla® Glass, Power Glass and sapphire crystal lens?

    Corning Gorilla Glass and the Power Glass lens are designed to be scratch resistant, but they are not as durable as the sapphire crystal lens*. The sapphire crystal lens is incredibly durable and is the third hardest mineral, right behind diamond. As a result, the lens is much harder to scratch than glass."

    But this does not say, if Gorilla and Power Glass are equal in relation to scratch resistance. I would absolutely like to know this.

    What many of you fail to pint out is that the sapphire darkens the image.  If you look at 2 Fenix watches, one with glass the other with sapphire, you would think the glass has a better display.   

    I avoid sapphire because the Fenix screen is dull enough how it is.  Stopped using sapphire with the Fenix 3hr.  Once you use gorilla glass you won’t go back.

    In the German Garmin news release for the F6 PRO models is written:

    "The PRO models are equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass 3" (only Corning Gorilla Glass 3 not the better DV variant Worried ).

    I need some clarification: is Power Glass a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 variant or has the F6xpSolar a PowerGlass lens under a Gorilla Glass 3? Confusing for me...

    I will add a screen protector on the Solar (after I got it -  but I need to know, if this does not impair the solar loading functionality).

    My thoughts exactly. Happy to have a thin screen protector on but that becomes pointless if it impairs the solar charging capability.

    I prefer Sapphire glass, as if I’m going to spend good money on a watch, I don’t want scratches on the screen, even at the expense of a darker screen.

    Our cell phones have had GG (in the past) and those scratched without issue.

    No worries. I look forward to seeing Ray's response to your question if applying a screen protector will hinder the solar charging function. I believe he said he will be testing this at lunch time today.
