18.07 alpha firmware????.

For a reason I cannot see anywhere on the web. My watch has got 18.07 and it's an alpha build according to the watch. I wasn't signed up to the beta either so even more mysterious since alpha enrollment isn't a thing any more. Anyone got any ideas what's happened?

  • Exactly! The difference in accuracy between my Apple Watch 6 and my Garmin Epix Pro is day and night. My AW6 is spot on and very close to my Polar chest strap both in accuracy and adaptation, i.e., while performing HIIT workouts it adapts quickly. On the contrary my Epix Pro is useless without an ECG chest strap.

I believe they just take more data points, have more power on the watch to discard outliers, while Garmin just spits out whatever bs is reading from the optical sensor without evaluating what it's reading actually.

So it's not an issue every manufacturer faces with whr!

  • Apple as  manufacturer has mainly solved this issue

Yet some users still have problems as even a quick search of the internet will reveal. There is no 100% solution for optical heart rate.

    ecg chest strap measurements.

What chest strap provides ECG information? I only know of those that measure the electrical impulse and provide heart rate. ECG from a chest strap is not possible as far as I am aware.

  • The Polar H10 transmits ECG. Only two connections, so it's not standard clinical grade,  and it's a proprietary Bluetooth message at fairly low time resolution, but it's ECG. Phone apps are available to log and display.

  • Please stop talking as if you know what you are talking about, please. You couldn't be more misinformed

  • Yeah you can't listen to the uninformed who don't read or watch reviews and look at the data. Apple uses a lot of AI, and Garmin isn't bad, they are average, but what users are now seeing is in fact, bad data. Simple things like indoor biking, etc... are easy for these watches now to track. Being 10-20 beats off on this activity is not acceptable regression, there is a clear bug, Garmin has said they know there is a bug, yet people still talk as if they have any clue what they are talking about. Pretty Lazy

  • Again, ANOTHER misinformed lazy response...try watching quantified scientist, dc rainmaker, desfit, etc... Google AI in HR algorithms. Read like ANY review of how much better HR monitors have gotten over the years and many now many can closely match a chest based HR monitor for many activities, including the Elevate v5 with an older firmware. Chest Straps measure electrical signals...ECG machines measure the electrical activity of the heart. Please educate yourself

  • I believe your issue is the software bug introduced by Garmin that many are seeing that's causing the HR monitor to glitch. If you look at a lot of the reviews the Epix Pro with Elevate v5 was in very close agreement with chest based HR Monitors for many activates, even hard ones like mountain biking. So the Epix Pro with Elevate v5 was very good at release, along the way as you can see in ALL the forums for Feniz 7, Epix, and FR x55, x65, a glich was introduced that is reeking havov on the HR detection even for simple things like walks, or indoor cycling.

  • Chest Straps measure electrical signals...ECG machines measure the electrical activity of the heart

A heart rate chest strap and an ECG machine both detect the same electrical activity of the heart. The difference is in how that detected signal is used.

    Please educate yourself
  • Thanks for making my point? Lazy, you don't interpret what people wrote or even understand what you said previously.

My response was saying, hey look at that, they BOTH read the electrical activity from the heart. In fact, there are now ECG wrist based sensors, Google Apple Watch or Garmin Elevate v5 or Samsung Galaxy Watch or Fitbit/Google Pixel Watch.
