18.07 alpha firmware????.

For a reason I cannot see anywhere on the web. My watch has got 18.07 and it's an alpha build according to the watch. I wasn't signed up to the beta either so even more mysterious since alpha enrollment isn't a thing any more. Anyone got any ideas what's happened?

  • Any publicly available Alpha/Beta software versions can be found here: forums.garmin.com/.../announcements

  • Off topic: I find it interesting that the sensor hub in the Marq 2 has been updated to the latest 30.23 firmware version, but the other watches have abandoned this sensor firmware. This update seems to have been abandoned going from beta 17.14 to beta 17.15 as well as other versions beyond 28.10 for the other watches. I also don't see any odd WHR issues in the Marq 2 forums like we see with the other watches. Just something to be aware of

  • that is curious im still on 21.06 :) dont know which corona version alpha, delta....

  • Are you talking sensor hub firmware or system software? Sounds like a Fenix 6 software build

  • false.  Dcrainmaker and other leading reviewers found very little delta in HR between Apple and Garmin.  Unless you have research data to back that up it’s useless statement.  Of course a chest strap will be most accurate but we are not talking about comparing to that for either watch.   The native watch HR sensor in the epix pro does a great job - do you have any sources of data that suggest it doesn’t ?

  • There are two problems here. 1. The Garmin data reviewed by DC Rainmaker and Desfit, etc... are of the watches at launch. If you look in the forums for Fenix 7, Epix 2, and Forerunner x55/x65 you will see there was a regression in a certain release. What appears to me to be the move to a certain firmware update for the sensor. 2. Yes, look at Quantified Scientist...he specifically reviews HR, Sleep, and GPS and looks for percentage agreement. Unfortunately, Garmin, even before the sensor bug was introduced, is behind all Apple Watches, Fitbit Charge 6, Whoop 4 (with the latest firmware update), and even Huawei when it comes to HR percentage agreement and Sleep detection. So one would think, based on their acquisition of First Beat Analytics, they will be improving detection which is possible with machine learning and software updates (see Quantified Scientists latest Whoop 4 HR update). Garmin is the clear winner usually for GPS, but many are seeing there watches that already only had average HR detection, take a turn for the worse after a software update (presumably some update to the sensor firmware that introduced a bug, but who knows)

  • Here you go, more scientific than DC Rainmaker or other type reviews. Still limited, but definitely more scientific. Plenty of video's by him on Garmin's watches. WHOOP Just Got Better! Secret Update (2024) - YouTube

  • Quantified Scientist has proven himself to be nothing more than a Quantified Idiot - over and over.  Why anyone still listens to this clown is beyond me.

  • Thanks for the intelligent, data driven, science based response. Sounds more like the data doesn't fit into how you view things so you dismiss it to fit your view.
