My Epix 2 has been behaving unusually since the last update. It’s used to track heart rate smoothly but now seems to get stuck at low values for a long time and suddenly jump to what “feels” like an accurate value. See screenshot for one example.

Hello LLang
I am sorry to hear you are seeing an inaccurate HR during the indoor row activities. It is common to see HR become inconsistent during some activity types. This could include, but is not limited…
If you are also experiencing this concern during activities such as running or walking, or outside of activities, this could indicate another issue. For this, I will reach out to you via Private message…
I am sorry to hear that many of your are experiencing concerns with the heart rate being inconsistent. If you are seeing this effect, please first look to the following HR recommendations:
Hello @7017726
I am sorry to hear you are also seeing a similar concern. One thing that can be changed by rebooting the watch, this means you have likely released the handle bars, and it may take a few…
Yes, I am with Garmin, no not new, and as a forum moderator I try to offer assistance where I can. However, this is a community driven forum discussion. This is a great way to source support from other…
At this time our engineers are still investigating reports of HR concerns since the 16.22. But as yet, do not have enough data to provide a specific solution or a time frame.
Thanks Laurie,
appreciate the response again. I recognise an inconsistent reading like this is more often associated with activities like rowing. However, the issue is new. I had never seen it before update…
Garmin-Laurie as I wrote, it happens since the last update. Before that I had zero HR issues. Even I told my friends how accurate it is. But it's very frustrating I see I have to hard reset, reinstall…
Tried this many times and it doesn't work
Haven't tried that, but who knows.
But why would blood flow be different before and after rebooting? I still hold the handlebars the same. That doesn't make a great deal of sense, especially given that the same pattern happens repeatedly.
I saw it happen, rarely, while running on the treadmill during the winter. Walking doesn't trigger the issue because it is an issue of the OHR not going above 120 (when it should be 140 or highter), though it is usually lower, as in 90-100, when it should be above 120.
It has nothing to do with holding the handlebars lol. It affects most people while running so that explanation makes no sense. Garmin is trying to deflect as long as possible to avoid having to replace a bunch of expensive watches because there's clearly a bigger issue here.
Garmin have become like Apple. "You're not wearing it right"
Same issue, but during a running activity. First 11 minutes low HR, then sudden jump from 148 BPM to 164 BPM! v17.12 beta
I too am having this problem.
before applying the update (last night) I ran an easy 8km (just under 6min/km) 156HR average/ 177HR max. Today I ran a 5km threshold @ under 4min/km - 160HR average, 169HR max. This is impossible, or somehow last night I turned into a super human.
Garmin please do not release updates before testing.
FYI before today the indicated average and max would be consistent in all my runs for years now. The anomaly is today’s readings. They can not be accurate.
I have literally been told i am not wearing it correctly when I raised an issue with Garmin Express app. Yes, Garmin Express.

Wouldn’t that have been Garmin Connect? Would love to see the message. Would you get a screenshot next time?
Same here!
It's a shame. I can't train with this hr measurements anymore.
Any way we can downgrade to the previous firmware???
