Same thing just happened to me too. Lap/Back button is unresponsive and then the Menu/Up button has died too in a matter of several minutes. Watch is made redundant, and I don't even swim with this watch…
In Europe, 24 months warranty is mandatory by law on all consumer goods, Apple's devices included :-)
I’ve been able to make an hard reset (which has been a coincidence, considering that typically the reboot loop cannot allow any reboot activity): will see how long will last, but I’m not optimistic……
If also this one breaks, I'll ask for a refund to buy a PRO or an EPIX 3 (depending on how long this one is going to last :D). I wouldn't feel honest and fair selling the fourth replacement to anyone. This is my main gripe here: this thing has no second hand market. Basically a total waste of money.
Good idea.
I'm probably not able to do this because I technically don't own the watch. I've got it through a gadget-leasing program through my employer. These kind of programs are popular these days in my country. ;-)
Same issue, very very disappointing. at the point I'm evaluating to thrown it away, unfortunately there are not much comparable options on the market and there's no way to get refunded by garmin, not even gettign a reasonable discount to get a different model.
I went through 4 replacement form Apr to Sep. Issue replicated anytime in 1week to 1 month of usage.
It's surely correlated with swimming, I swim 3 times 9k per week on average.
I never press the button underwater, from time to time I push the button with the watch wet. Eg. just after a swim while going to get a shower. I always wash the watch with non-salt water after the training.
Anyone know if the new epix pro is affected? I know about the vary same issue on epix (gen2) standard and fenix 7.
I'm not sure. There is one report about Epix pro https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/epix-2/345651/epix-2-pro-buttons-sticking-really-bad. But I found only this one so I believe the issue isn't that widespread.
In fact, it is already 36 months.

There might be some correlation but that's not the same as causation. I swim several times a week in the sea and haven't had any problems. Others never swim or get the watches wet and have similar issues. There's clearly something inherently wrong with the design/manufacturing process. But, as you've found out, Garmin are quick to exchange, albeit that's not the same as fixing the problem. Have you tried addressing the recurrent issue you're having with your local consumer's board? From your experience it would appear you might have cause to have the problem addressed due to the watch not being fit for the purpose for which it was intended.
Correlation definitely. Perhaps some batches are affected and others not. Different factories, or parts. Three in a row is a high correlation. All mine went wrong after the first sea swim. Maybe they could use the Swim 2 buttons, or bring out a swim 3 with more functionality.
It is my 4th watch EPIX Gen2 already following the same issue with the boot loop. I also spend a lot of time in the sea. I contacted technical support today and they confirmed this problem is known. They sent me a newer batch that should not have this issue again. If it keeps going they will upgrade me to the PRO apparently.
Any of you know if Garmin has officially confirmed that they are aware of this issue?
They replaced mine 4 times and never admitted there is a known issue (italy support).
Finnally I decided to sell the last watch and move to PRO
