Sleep mode keeps turning back on

Schedule has sleep mode turn off at 8AM.   When I wake up before 8,  I use the control menu to turn sleep mode off.  However minutes later, sleep mode turns back on.  Any way to turn sleep mode off without it coming back on?

  • I totally agree with you. I bought Epix gen 2 recently and it's really annoying to deal with it on daily basis, when you don't have strict schedule. This is kinda embarrassing for Garmin, as I thought it's one of the Premium Watches they have in offer. Is here anyone from Garmin to let us know if they are even working on it?

  • Update May 6, 2024:

Our engineers are investigating reports of Sleep mode not being able to be manually disabled. They are expecting to have this resolved with a software update release mid-June. However, some have reported this being resolved with the BETA software updates version 17.12 and later. So if you are needing an immediate fix, you can try enrolling in the BETA software program:

Enrolling in and Learning About Garmin Beta Software Program

  • Unfortunately, as of 17.16, this is not fixed Disappointed

  • Hi, I think problem is solved for me - at first place I joined BETA and using the newest available version.

What I didn't know as a new Garmin user, is how to properly finish sleep mode. At the beginning I was turning it off by holding Light button and clicking on Sleep mode button. Once, actually by an accident I clicked START/STOP button when sleep mode was still on, and watch asked me if I want to end my sleep, and it seems the proper way to end your sleep.

Not sure if that's the case for others, it seems silly, but if there are new Garmin users it might be helpful.

  • Good to hear that progress is being made.

About the "How to properly finish sleep mode", while I agree that it is good to identify "what works", I can't agree on "proper" or "not proper" way to end sleep. If the option is there, and it "appears" to turn off sleep mode when you click on it, then it should work. Any other possibility is confusing for the user. If going through that menu is not meant to turn off sleep mode, then the software should not let you turn it off that way.

In my case, if I click "Start/Stop" it does work but it usually also changes the watch face! I can revert to my watch face by activating sleep mode and deactivating sleep mode again through the shortcuts menu (Light button).

Hopefully on the next non-beta release it is all solved!

  • It's a nice accidental workaround but Garmin needs to fix for using the actual menu and shortcuts.

Also, it doesn't work on a Fenix 7, which is odd given they use the same firmware.

So, yeah, it's pretty messed up.

  • Hi - I have software version 17.20 and this is still an issue for me. I have a sleep schedule set, but often get up before this schedule has ended and use a hotkey I have mapped to turn off sleep mode. But as reported, after a few minutes sleep mode automatically turns back on, despite manually turning it off and I am obviously not asleep and moving around! Would be great if it stayed turned off and recognised that I was no longer sleeping and open up the morning report at this stage. Many thanks - Jon

  • - as I thought for me it's already solved, this issue came back to me again after some new updates. It's very the same as Jon explained above.
Can we expect it to be solved soon?

    Thanks.

  • Hello

While many have seen this working with the BETA software updates, at this time, this issue is not considered resolved. Our engineers are planning a future Public software update hopefully by mid-June.

  • Here's my suggestion:

    1. I don't "enter" sleep mode,  I just go to sleep. I also don't "exit" sleep mode.

    2. My sleep schedule is set from 22.00 to 05.30, but during the summer I ger up at 08.00. When I wake up, recording has stopped at 05.30. If I edit my sleep to my proper wake up time, my stats are there.

    3. Perhaps a solution is to ser your sleep schedule for earlier than you actually wake up so your watch is for sure not in sleep mode upon awakening.

    4. My reason for reading this post is that I want to know why, all the sudden with my new Galaxy s24+, my sleep stops being recorded at the end of my scheduled sleep. It NEVER did this before with other phones. Super annoying to have to edit every day.
