How to prevent auto upload of activities via the phone?

Not sure if latest app update (iOS) or some beta (now on 8.23) is to blame, but my watch have started to autoupload activities via the phone connection, even if the app is totally closed. That is not acceptable! Also when initiating a sync from the watch at home, it now preffers the phone connection insted of wifi wich is a bit of stupid…

Sure, I can kill bluetooth but that will also prevent notifications so thats not an option, and the only place I find an auto upload option is under wifi settings, and that is already off.

Anyone else seen this or have a solution?

It's probably not what you want, but as a profile setting, for all devices, it is possible to disable auto upload in GC: Settings, Profile and Privacy, Data, Device Upload: Off. That also disables uploading activity tracking data. To avoid possible data loss, do not leave the setting to off for more than a few days (depends on device, Fenix 6 is no problem for at least a week).

That's always been the case.

In answer to your question, just leave fully closed until you need it. Sounds like it's been running in the background, not properly shutdown/

Actually, today all is back to normal again without me changing anything? At home this morning the watch did a sync using WiFi when I initiated one, and this mornings bike commute did not auto upload, so all is back to how I want it. Could it have been some back end issue, or something in the watch download queue that inititaded on bluetooth and kept that channel open?

I always close GCM when not in use, notifications work anyway so I don't need it running all days, and I get to decide when to sync/upload, not the watch.

Because I want to be in control of what I upload and when.

I think the whole thing also has something to do with stopping manipulation. As long as it's on the clock, it can be manipulated and you can cheat.
The rest is comfort. I'm not sure, just turn off wifi on the watch. That's where the upload should take place.

For WiFi yes, already have that, the issue was it connected to phone even if app was closed, and uploaded that way

For some maybe, for me it's more a question of uploading things when I have the time to add notes and photos etc directly after...

It's not specifically an answer but you can change your default privacy setting such that any activity that's uploaded only you can view, not the public, not your connections etc.

You can also add zones of privacy to your account that will prevent the viewing of any part of an activity that happens inside that zone of privacy. Example I have a 1 mile privacy zone centered on my home address. Any portion of an activity that takes place in that 1 mile area has no GPS track visible to anyone but me.
