Multi-band bugs on Epix (after losing the fix) ?

I've been pretty impressed buy the GPS accuracy of the Epix, even without multi-band, as good or better than the Forerunner 55, but I had some bugs today in multi-band mode, both after going under a short bridge and probably losing the fix.

The first time pace picked up abnormally, from 5/km to 4'30/km as seen below

and the track when completely off course (the second one is on the way back)

Has anyone else noticed these ?

  • Yes, i also noticed such things in all system / Multiband mode:

    forums.garmin.com/.../serious-bugs-in-gps-inaccurate-data-or-stop-of-position-in-map-when-using-all-systems-multiband

As you can see, I also had a very strange behavior after a tunnel and other peculiarities.

Let's see who will come back and say that he had no problems on his walk and that's why the problem does not exist.

  • Hehe...that's indeed likely to happen ;-)

I'll go check out your thread.

I don't know if you also have the audio bug with awful audio but problems are starting to add up with very little hope of Garmin actually acknowledging or fixing either of them as usual. I think I'll be sending back the Epix and get a Venu 2 instead (I have an Edge 530 to do the health calculations) as it would be hard to do without the terrific screen of the Epix.

  • I don't have the audio bug with my Sonys, but the Epix is really a bummer.

Significantly more bugs in the area of navigation, GPS and altitude calculation / graphs, display than the Fenix 6.

And that Garmin do not provide updates, it is a cheek. Too bad you can not sue manufacturers in the EU, I would be right up front.

But what they can do well and very quickly: Delete critical posts.

Mine is also going back because of several problems with the buttons.

I'm also thinking of discontinuing my popular OSM map project for the Fenix and Epix, because that's how I encourage people to buy Garmin.

  • Ah yes, I'd forgotten about the buttons...I shudder at each triple click of the back button, but so far it still works.

  • Would be interesting, if this also will happen with using “gps only” setting? Perhaps the multi gnss mix is somehow confused by the underpass?

  • It's always best to change only one parameter so I'll rerun that route with multi-GNSS but without multi-band to see if I have the same problem.

Still that shouldn't have happened today and Garmin must have seen this too in the hundreds/thousands hours of testing they logged before releasing these watches. Still they went ahead and put them on the market for 1000€ and what's worrying is that they probably had no solution for it and went along with the usual "good enough" strategy that's always worked for them.

  • Garmin should do its own testing work, we have already paid for everything with the purchase price of the watch.

Other manufacturers use similar chips, but such problems are not known or they fix them.

  • Yeah, what annoys me to no end is that Garmin must be well aware of these problems and just ignore them...

Anyway my decision is made, I'm sending it back and getting a Venu 2 since the screen is what I like best about the Epix ;-) And if the Venu still has unacceptable bugs I'll use the trusty FR55 for running and a normal watch for everyday use ;-)

  • I also made a decision: I stopped my map project with several thousand downloads.

I don't want to contribute to users continuing to buy junk from Garmin, whose problems other people then iron out in their spare time.

  • So I redid the test today with multiband off (still with Multi-GNSS) and no problem this time where the track was off yesterday and I didn't notice any obvious pace problems after the other bridge. This is of course anecdotal but still it happened once so it's bound to happen again and you'll never know when...
