Others with Audio dropouts using Beats Fit Pro’s and Epix 2?

Wearing my Epix 2 sapphire on the left hand.  Notice frequent audio dropouts over BT using my Beats Fit Pro’s during a run activity.  Switching to Mono makes no difference (although unsure if that should affect marginal BT performance).

Swapped over to my older Powerbeats BT headphones (this model is also BT, but each earpiece is wired to the other rather than being independent) and no issues at all.

Wondering if anyone else observing this.

Have considered swapping the Epix to the Right hand, but would rather avoid that hassle in all honesty.

  • Thanks, sounds strange but will give it a go! although getting the initial connection is no problem, its usually 5 to 20 mins into a run it starts disconnecting, sometimes will re connect on its own after about 20 seconds otherwise i just do it via the down button, it then searches for the ear pods and re connects to them, but when it happens multiple times on a run, very frustrating......Did try using the Epix and buds indoors at the gym (usually connect to the phone) as well and all seems fine, its outside the issue occurs.

  • I have this issue on my epix running 11.28 using the beats fit pro. Constant choppiness and stuttering. They worked fine on my fenix 6.

  • My final solution was to switch from the Beats Fit Pro, to a pair of Shokz OpenRun Pro BT headphones.  The Shokz headphones have been rock solid during ~80 runs, relative to my very different experience with Beats BT headphones.  I’ve also grown to really prefer the bone conduction / open ear feature they have.  They’re a more “traditional” single BT receiver design, compared to the independently wireless Beats Fit Pro earpieces.

Chris from Garmin was super helpful during efforts to solve my issue with my Beats Fit Pro’s, exchanging my original Epix 2 to see if that would help (it didn’t unfortunately, the first replacement was significantly worse with BT disconnects than the original… on the same firmware).  Chris then arranged for another exchange unit, and by that point I’d decided to stop investing any more time/effort with the Beats Fit Pro’s, moving to Shokz OpenRun Pro’s.  Life’s too short, etc.

My sense is that there’s perhaps some BT RF/stack interoperability or performance variability between specific watches, and specific headphone brands/models.  “Luck of the draw?”.  The fact that the first Epix 2 exchange unit suffered from a significantly higher rate of BT disconnects, on the same firmware version than my original unit, seemed to support that conclusion.  So, perhaps the Shokz headphones I’m using now have significantly stronger BT RF performance and/or a more compatible BT stack implementation than my Beats BT headphones, which helps to side step the issue overall.

  • Yep, thanks. I bought the Sony Linkbuds S, and they are better than the beats fit pro and airpods pro 2, as neither of those are usable. I connected my HRM pro HR strap, and the airpods pro 2 stuttered and completely froze. Pretty unreal, as this device has been out for a year. It is bizarre that my Fenix 6 pro was more trouble-free.

  • - are the Sony Linkbuds S working well?  By that I mean without dropouts?  I am looking for some earbuds that work well with the Epix.  I have seen several recommendations for the Shokz/Aftershokz, but would prefer something more traditional and small form factor that still is dropout-free.

  • Your issue with Garmin watches is it appears to be pot luck. They clearly have weak Bluetooth signal in the watches. The only solid connection (outside) I've had is with Airpods. Anything else I own has break ups in connection when outside. They generally work ok inside.

  • Airpods Pro (v1) worked horribly for me in the gym - constant dropouts.  I didn't try outside since it was so bad inside.

  • I've been using the Jaybird Vista 2 since November 2021. Got the Epix (Gen 2) two months later. Once I figured out which wrist the Jaybirds liked my watch to be on, all good ever since. No issues indoors or outdoors.
