Do we get the new SW updates from 945?

Can someone from Garmin elaborate on this? I really want the new training load feature.

I think this thread has run it's course. It's become nothing more than an argument.  There have been intelligent and asinine post from both sides and it's no longer productive. I think it's a safe bet that if the new features are added, they'll be listed in a FW update sticky and not before hand.  For those of you that want the features added, let me make a suggestion.  Use Garmin's product suggestion website and submit your idea/request.  I understand that people want to post on the forum for strength in numbers in the hope that Garmin reads the post and then add the features.  This can turn around and bite you in the ass.  This is an open forum where opposing views are posted and welcomed. It doesn't matter how many people post that they want the features added, or how many "likes" those post get, it only takes one person to post an opposing view that Garmin agrees with to prevent it from happening.  Using the product suggestion website prevents this from becoming a possibility.

  • yes these features ( as many as possible if hardware makes it possible)...(asked someone from firstbeat and they said its up to garmin)

would make it the best watch again!

  • Yes adding these features is essential now (firstbeat says its possible btw)

  • There's been a lot of heavy discounting on the 5 plus models in the past month. Garmin almost never run discounts on their watches unless a new model is on the way. So that gives you two options - wait another month or 2 and you'll likely be able to buy the updated version (5.5 Plus? Seems unlikely that a true 6 model is on it's way) or take advantage of the current discounts and get yourself a great watch with still great (but no longer top of the line) features.

They're not going to answer any of your questions for simple commercial reasons - answering any of them will entice people to not buy the current models and give away their release plans.

Why do you assume Odie21 has a problem?  Because he doesn't agree with you, he has a problem?  You're correct to say your purchase comes with the expectation that it will be supported.  Updates that include features that were not initially released?  Why?  Because you feel you spent a lot of money?  Subjective!  Because you feel it's capable of supporting new features?  So what?   I recently bought the new FR945.  Why?  Just like your 5+ purchase.  It had the features I wanted at the price I was willing to pay.  No one bought there 5+ for what it could do in the future.  They bought it for what it did then.  You and I both know this "I bought my 5+ with the expectation of future features" is nothing more than a line of sh*t posted now to fit your agenda.  Where are all the post when the 5+ first came out with the "I can't wait to see what new features will be added"?  They didn't exist and it's now an issue after the 945 release.  If you get the new features, kudos to you.  Just stop with the "expectation" nonsense.

It's absolutely possible, but will Garmin pay for the additional licensing that comes with activating these new features? Probably not. They'll want you to wait until the release of the Fenix 6 where the addition of all of these features will provide a larger differentiator between it and the older model? Do I like this? No. Do I accept it? Yes.

Also, those who are saying that their iPhone receives new features so why not their Fenix are missing a critical point. Apple make a great deal of money selling apps via the app store, thus it's essential to keep releaseling updates to ensure that people continue holding onto their iPhone (and buying more apps) no matter how old the hardware. Garmin does not have this luxury. There's absolutely no monetary incentive to continue rolling out new features to old hardware aside from keeping the good will of their customers.

  • Its true many things have been said here. Although Garmin does't have to back port the feature everybody can understand the frustration of people who bought a watch less than a year ago and who see it outdated so quickly.

The race prediction and VO2 max are features the F5+ has, but witch are outdated now that more precise version of the calculation methods exists.

The other aspect is that the 1030 will see these features updated even though it is one year older that the F5+, so it has nothing to see with the new sensors, it is pure software.

I still love this watch, but I feel a bit fooled. I've waited for 8 month to have it working as advertised (Battery life issues, virtual racer, connectivity issues...) now that it almost works as advertised 8 month ago I discover that it is outdated...

Again Garmin doesn't have the obligation to do anything about it, and it is kind of the problem...

  • Anything that is “software” related can and will seem outdated as the product ages. I by no means know if they (Garmin) can port newer software programs back due to licensing issues as mentioned in this thread. That said, you buy the product “as is”. You hope that it works as advertised and if it doesn’t, that attempts are made to rectify the issues. But, one should not EXPECT the benefit of newer software/features being ported back just because you paid a lot of money or you’re under the false impression that “the customer is always right”....(psst...they’re not).

If Garmin “promised” continued updates with new features for “x” time, then one would be justified with the expectation of receiving new features through updates. But, I haven’t seen anyone post the verbiage from Garmin that promised this, so...

  • I also think the best way is to use the link stated from TMK17...  I have already done it... the more we are the higher the possibilty that they change.

I would even pay a certain amount of Money for the extra stats… but not 600 € for a new watch.

  • Thanks! Will mail Them right away.
