Do we get the new SW updates from 945?

Can someone from Garmin elaborate on this? I really want the new training load feature.

Dear God, just buy the watch which best suits your training requirements. If it doesn't yet exist, wait and keep using what you have.

  • Not only the best way, but probably the only way. I also have the Fenix 5 plus , and sure it would been Nice to have the new features, think we have to wait and see what they do. If i got them i am happy, if not , use what you have or buy a new watch With those features if you can`t live without them, just remember there will always come something new.

  • Did you ask your firstbeat guy if it means additional licensing costs for Garmin?

  • Does it matter? Garmin values their 5+ series at “x” dollar due the hardware and included software. The entitled people here are trying to get features from a newer watch for free, so they don’t have to spend the money on buying the new watch.

MARQ series aside, the Fenix 5+ series is still the best sport watch on the market right now. Be happy with your purchase (not you specifically JanH) and save your money for the updated models later this year.

  • No, he did not tell me this information. He said that it was up to garmin. I offered to pay. I don't understand, ok the watch doesn't have the software X I paid Y for...

They probably have to pay for licenses and I get.

Now, Why doesn't garmin just deal with Firstbeat, look let's make money together...you put the updates on the IQ store for X amount and we split it ...or whatever is good for both parties.

Now, the people willing to pay let's say 50$ for the new features will pay ...that's an option if they are loosing money or want to make more.

if this watch was an android phone or ios, we would already have paying apps that maximise the watches.

All in all, resale value of all the watches would also go up and your typical Fenix 5X+ will buy the new hardware (fenix 6x) knowing that they are buying something that is the best ( or almost - Marq) and maximises hardware capabilities / sf functions.

Last argument, ok so I buy a new watch that is probable capable of the almost new old one ( fenix 5x+), so basically consuming when not needed and is terrible for the environnement. This isn't toilet paper

  • It was just an attempt to understand a bit more. This thread got a bit too emotional for my taste.

  • To make extra money with selling firstbeat metrics is actually a nice idea IMHO.
But of course, Garmin has little interest that we keep using our purchases longer. I think they'd be rather happy if people would buy their watches like toilet paper. Garmin doesn't care (yet) about the environment. They would, if people would stop buying their watches for that reason though.

  • You buy a watch for what it can do, not for what you hope it will. Garmin will backport some features of newer devices when it can, others it won't. Be grateful for what you get for ‘free’ after you've purchased.

  • If people think like you do, the greedy companies of the world will screw all customers over... This watch costs incredible amounts of money and I expect it to keep up with the competition. I actually expect Garmin to keep it updated and in the loop!

The thing Garmin and many others do is to keep messing with the customers with small updates and then they give only the new updates to the new devices to keep people buying newer products they really don't need. Greedy pratice and totally not cool!

Fenix 5Xplus minus + double ++ is running the same OS and mostly the same HW and I don't see any reason why they should keep this update from us. IT still costs lots of money from their greedy webpage. I paid almost half this money from my local vendor here in Norway. Half from what $$$min wants!
