Do we get the new SW updates from 945?

Can someone from Garmin elaborate on this? I really want the new training load feature.

I see a lot of “entitled” responses here. You bought the 5+ as is, not with the expectation that “new” features would be added from newer  models a year newer. I could understand wanting to see the bugs on a watch worked out but “give us what this new watch has....WHAT, no response from Garmin...shame on them....!”

If I buy a 2019 “insert car here” with “x” features, then the ‘20’s come out a year later with a few new software features that your car doesn’t have, are you pounding down the doors of the car manufacturers to GIVE YOU the new options? No, you’d look like an idiot. If I buy an iPhone XS, I’m not “expecting” that Apple will give me the new software features that the XI has when it comes out. This is a BUSINESS ladies and gentlemen...

One thing that Garmin can help itself out with is releasing watches slower, more thoroughly tested...with no software updates (other than critical fixes). People are just “expecting” things nowadays. The 5+ is an excellent “premium” watch with better WR, better screen, etc. If you want the greatest and latest, then budget $1500 each year to buy the watches that come out.

Totally agree. My F5x+ has not been dimished in the slightest by the 945. And I bought mine the WEEK before the 945 launch.

Yes it has new features. It's been launched a year later. If you want the new features buy it.

Garmin do often backport new features (Galileo support) but there's no expectation.

It still does what I bought it for
    I have lost no features.

    Totally agree

    Sued for what?

  • I do not agree. Car manufactures often update their multimedia system and also apple update 3 or 4 gen old iphone/ipad/mac to newest IOS/OSX with about all feature that the hardware can support . Why Garmin shouldn't do it???

5+ has the same screen as 945

Ask Garmin. For a start the 945 is a completely different focussed beast. It's a triathlon watch. The Fenix series is more a multisport.

They may or may not, but the truth remains. You have lost NO featiues since the launch of the 045, and to use your analogy - some of those features ARE h/w dependant (spO2 Sensor springs to mind)

It's a bit of a first world problem. If you are continually going to lament over newer watches and newer features you'll never buy anything cause the current state of play in all tech is a one year release cycle.

Enjoy your watch. It still does all the fitness features it did when you bought it.

Interesting how a dissenting voice is getting downvotes!

  • Yes i have lost no feature, but when i paid 1000€ for a watch i'm expecting that it continue to improve over time , as if i buy a Galaxy S10+ i know that it will receive al least 2 android major releases (Q and R) and continues to receive security patch for al least 3 years... same thing if i buy a 1500€ Iphone...

However, Fenix 5X+ has also Sp02 sensor, so virtually could receive all new features.

I bought my F5x+ the WEEK before the 945 was launched.

    Did it hurt? A little.

Do I care? Not much. Garmin do often backport, and it's not set in stone whether they will or not.

Garmin DO update their watches far better than Samsung (who are one of the worst with regards to Android updates, I'd have said possibly Sony would have been a better example) - the Fenix 3 series are still getting regular updates and that is from 2016!

Corrected my mistype! (F3 is 2016!)

It may happen, it may not. But I'm still getting my money's worth from mine. It's still helping me with my fitness, and the new features... yeah would be nice, but not an essential. I could have always returned my 5x+ but I prefer it's ruggedness
