Strokes gained data severely lacking vs Arccos - any updates planned?

Does Garmin have any plans to improve the extremely basic data available to users in the Garmin Golf app or the mobile Connect golf interface? There have been repeated asks over the past three years for basic functionality that other golf apps/watches/sensors offer. These include:

  • Ability to enter first putt distance from the hole
  • Ability to mark the pin on the green with a single button press from the watch while on the green
  • Ability to see strokes gained data vs other handicap levels (pro, scratch, 5, 10, 15 handicap)

I have been using the CT10 sensors with my Garmin watch this year, and while I love the simplicity of shot tracking, it is kind of pointless to be unable to do simple tasks like "mark the hole location" or update initial putt distance. Without that functionality the approach statistics, putting statistics, and chipping statistics are borderline meaningless. In addition, almost all golfers are trying to improve, and so I don't think they care that much about being compared against golfers similar to them - and would rather focus on golfers who are better than them.

Can we please get some sort of engagement around these basic features and whether they are being actively working on? it will be a massive hassle to switch everything to Arccos, but at this point given the complete lack of engagement between Garmin and the golf community who have purchased their products, I don't see much point continuing down the Garmin road.

A simple "we are working on ANY upgrade to strokes gained data" would go a long way...

  • Totally agree with your 2nd last paragraph. If you look through these forums, punters have been asking these questions since the beginning of time, and the answers are always the same.  Garmin is the best at GPS, but the performance data is useless.

  • i agree with whats going on in this post.  taking the garmin golf application out of the conversation for all of its issues no matter the hardware platform (s62/r10/s70/etc) the constant issues with this very expensive s70 watch 6 months after release are rather frustrating and i have lost a considerable amount of confidence with Garmin hardware/software.

i did not buy a watch that has a "golf feature", i did not buy a startup company product, i purchased a very expensive golf focused watch which has had more issues when i needed it to work for me than i have had the entire time with my s62 across multiple years of use.

just thinking back since i upgraded last may: plays like is still broken, maps update bricked my watch golf ability that i was not aware was an issue until i was standing on the first teebox trying to start my round.  nothing like playing 18 without a gps of any type because my 700$ golf watch is not working.  playing a round and having only the green show, not the hole im playing,  playing a round on a new course and having the same hole shown over and over, scorecards going missing if i open garmin connect before garmin golf post round BUT the watch has all the data still because i can sit there and scroll through and see last around and all the information, the list goes on before we even start talking about the garmin golf application issues.

being QA for a billion dollar company on a product that has been released and the user paid fully for is not acceptable (not a slight on you at all Cody as you have been great to work with).  im tired of it, i used to really trust my s62 and at the end of the day the worst thing was the clubs were out of order post shot when they added all the new wood types (still an issue) but the damn thing worked.  i look at my s70 and first im worried it wont work pre-round and then during the round my trust for distances is not there due to the plays like issue and then post round i wonder if my scorecard will work for a second then become all 0's.

im just tired of it but i dont have another option for what to do.

  • With the Epix gen 2 there is an easy way to place the flag (pin) on the correct position. Stand beside the flag, choose ‘show green’ and place the flag on the pointer with triangle.

    Maybe also working with S70?

  • Interested to hear more.  can you elaborate on what changes we might be able to expect?

  • I cannot, but the public will find out soon.

  • I couldn't agree more with the initial post. I do enjoy the reliability and use of the Garmin golf products. I have the sensors and watch. But the statistics by comparison to other premium brands, and the front end interface, is miles behind. I'd be delighted to see improvements in this area. But they have to be significant for them to be comparable. There is so much data that is made available by the hardware, it's just the software doesn't best use, nor present it in what is considered to be industry recognized. If the updates are scheduled soon, then I'll hang around with my Garmin products until it's release. But if it doesn't measure up, then I'll probably, and reluctantly, move over to arcoss.

  • I agree. I’m giving it through 2024 to see if garmin updates their software features. They say “big changes are coming” but I suspect that may be just marketing bc to date I have not seen any major changes

  • Yes, with all the information that the watch tracks I can’t believe we can’t get something as basic at a strokes gained metrics that make sense. Simply look at the info given by golf metrics — a basic app that gives you significant insight on your game. If the app doesn’t change I really don’t see the point of having all this technological hardware.
