Strokes gained data severely lacking vs Arccos - any updates planned?

Does Garmin have any plans to improve the extremely basic data available to users in the Garmin Golf app or the mobile Connect golf interface? There have been repeated asks over the past three years for basic functionality that other golf apps/watches/sensors offer. These include:

  • Ability to enter first putt distance from the hole
  • Ability to mark the pin on the green with a single button press from the watch while on the green
  • Ability to see strokes gained data vs other handicap levels (pro, scratch, 5, 10, 15 handicap)

I have been using the CT10 sensors with my Garmin watch this year, and while I love the simplicity of shot tracking, it is kind of pointless to be unable to do simple tasks like "mark the hole location" or update initial putt distance. Without that functionality the approach statistics, putting statistics, and chipping statistics are borderline meaningless. In addition, almost all golfers are trying to improve, and so I don't think they care that much about being compared against golfers similar to them - and would rather focus on golfers who are better than them.

Can we please get some sort of engagement around these basic features and whether they are being actively working on? it will be a massive hassle to switch everything to Arccos, but at this point given the complete lack of engagement between Garmin and the golf community who have purchased their products, I don't see much point continuing down the Garmin road.

A simple "we are working on ANY upgrade to strokes gained data" would go a long way...

  • thank you, I came here to type something up like this as I came into the Garmin golf world when the r10 came out and then picked up an s62/ct10/z82.  so many small steps forward with the products and Garmin golf app on both iOS and Android.  making the jump to the s70 was what I thought would be a no brainer but holy crap it's been a major step back.

absolutely agree with you that no matter the Garmin employee or the sub forums we have been hearing the "big changes are coming soon" and they never seem to arrive and it's constantly crickets.

the s70 is not a cheap product and I have to imagine that a ton of Garmin employees use the product, how can they be okay with the quality of the watch and most importantly the app??

Garmin is literally living off the fact there is no other competent golf watch out there that works with both apple and android products and to my knowledge their products still do not work with other vendors software.

  • hopefully we can get a formal announcement before making a decision to purchase the competition.  All the cloak and dagger around not sharing this stuff is funny to me since we know that people are going to make a purchase decision in the very near future (if they have not already) and those decisions need to be made on the data that exists.  Announce what is coming and get people exited with some info and visuals even if your ETA is 1/2 way through the season (people will wait only if you give them a reason), otherwise Arccos is a clear winner IMHO

"Thank you for the post. While I cannot give a specific timeframe, changes to the Golf app experience and performance stats are on our roadmap in the near future."

    This was 6 months ago.

    -and-

"I cannot, but the public will find out soon."

    Has been 4 months ago.

Golf season 2024 is starting and no relevant Golf feature updates regarding the reported suggestions/bugs/ideas/improvements are coming.

Even if most disappointed users are used to it now it is still not ok.

All my Garmin golf gear has a lot of software issues and lack severely behind the competition.

My latest fad is I'm at the golf course and the other golfer notice my MARQ 2. Tells me it is very nice watch and told me he refrained from buying this , or the s70 because all it does is keeping score and the rest sucks.

Shows me his shotscope 5. pulls out his phone to show me the stats and what not.

Asked him how much the watch is.

    is around 250 euro .

    f.me.

  • I have just bought the s70 and the ct10s. I’m shocked by lack of data it shows after the round. Shots gained per club, putting data, ease of pin placement and post round analysis. Is this coming to garmin or am I returning this and getting arcoss?

  • I would not count on much changing. History says little changes. If SG data is important, Arccos and Shotscope are good fits. There are great apps out there that do SG as well. Some are manual process but you use Garmin to along side them to get great data.

    Good luck.

  • After couple months of use, purchasing the S70 was the worst decision I’ve made. What’s the point of all this hardware if I can’t see useful stats. At least give us a way to download the stats so I can input them into a simple software like Golfmetrics. I.e

hole / par / #shot/ lie / distance to hole or middle of the green

    Hole 1 /5 /shot 1 /  tee / 525 yards

    Hole 1/ 5/ shot 2 / rough / 325 yards

    Hole 1/ 5/ shot 3 / fairway / 40 yards

    Hole 1 / 5/ shot 4 / green / 10 ft

This shouldn’t be  that hard since all this information whigh is  already stored somewhere. Just give us access in a CSV.

I am tired of waiting for a software enhancement that is never coming.

  • Hello,

Well, after months of no response from Garmin on any improvement, I decided to look elsewhere.  I found a fantastic app called Tangent that blew my mind with the amount of information and data included in the system.  While it doesn't have the ability to know what club you are using automatically, it does a reasonably good job selecting the club you used based on distance you used for each club in set up.  Graphics are much better than the Garmin cartoon course and  app offers training and game improvement sessions. It takes a few minutes to set it up but overall, I am impressed with the post round summaries and the analysis on various aspects.

I am selling my S62 and CT10 along with my R12 launch monitor.  Time to move into the now instead of hoping for something.

  • Many updates, new features, and improvements were made in the past few months to Garmin Golf products, including significant updates to the Approach S70 most recently being with the 16.55 version update.

The 16.55 update to the Approach S70 was released mid-March 2024 and include the following changes:

    • Added the ability to mark the hole location by double-tapping the touchscreen in green view.
    • Added the ability to mark the locations of putts by pressing the action key in green view.
    • Added support for Settings Backup (requires Garmin Connect Mobile).
    • Added Jump Rope activity.
    • Added Sleep Coach glance.
    • Added Connect IQ System 7.
    • Fixed issue where alternate locations couldn’t be added in the Weather app.
    • Fixed issues with the Music app.
    • Fixed UI issues with Naps.
    • Updated scoring UI to show the initial strokes and putts values as what was recorded, if putts are marked.
    • Updated the Weather app to no longer show stale data.
    • Updated Virtual Caddie to show green hit percentage on approach shot suggestions.
  • thats nice - but is not progress, the deficiencies in the Garmin Golf product is the App itself,  how it reports statistics.  It is by far the worst product in the market, for all the reasons we the users are repeatedly mentioning here.

Garmin makes great hardware, thats the only reason I keep using mine.

  • Amen to that - read this 'exciting' update about jump rope and ordered my Arccos today (Pro tip Garmin team - listen to your users or buy stock in Arccoss since they are destroying you even though you essentially already have the same data)
