New R10 is Not Reading at All (New System Software Available - See Update)

I just received my R10 and it will not register any shots.  I used Garmin Express to make sure it was updated. I deleted the Garmin app on my IOS device and reinstalled it.  My setup is just as it is suppose to be according to the instructions.  It still will not register a shot.

I installed the E6 software and tried a practice session there.  It connects and says “ready”.  Once I hit it says “calculating”.  It then says “Error! Check if device is connected”. Then it connects again and says “Ready”.

I have contacted support and they are looking into it.

Does anyone have a similar issue or a suggestion?

Thanks

  • I just tried this on a Mac and I can say the install process to the new update was much longer than before. I will test it out this afternoon and give an update. Thank you for the suggestion!

  • Got my unit today, updated to 3.9. Led goes red in the backswing every time, and will not register the shot. Very disappointed. If I wait 5-10 seconds for the led to turn green while at the top of my swing, it does register. A bit difficult to play like that tho Disappointed

  • How is your setup?

  • Indoor, wood floors, quite small room. Unit about 6-8 feet from the ball, net about 10 feet away. Lot's of boxes and stuff in the room as well.

  • Sounds ok, I set mine up at exactly 7 between R10 and ball and then 10’ between ball and screen. Is it on the same plane? Is the ball the same height as the base of the r10? Is there any fans? When it’s blinking green does waving your hand in front turn it red? You said it’s a wood floor? Is it carpeted? Does the carpet run under the R10 as well? Just trying to eliminate any issues.

  • The golf mat i hit off is about 3 cm elevated, doesn't help if I elevate the unit similarly. No fans, just a panel oven, some computer gear (router, printer, monitor etc). Wood floor is not carpeted.

Unit turns red when i wave my hand at it as well.

  • Try a carpet on the floor all the way to the ball. No shiny wood floor. Maybe?

  • Update - My R10 is now working after I deleted the Garmin folder from the R10 when it was connected to MAC and showing as a removable disk. Then I updated it to 3.9 again. It has been working well this evening. I appreciate the suggestion as it seems to have fixed my issue.

  • Great to hear that this worked!

  • Trying the trick to remove the Garmin folder from the unit and upgrading software in Garmin Express did help. The unit still flashes red in the backswing, but it does record a swing now. Which is an improvement :) Problem now is that distances are way off, 40% shorter than I'd expect.
